Your family certainly has pride and control issues, don't they? I am surprised they couldn't put their egos aside for even a a moment to embrace family members.
You create the tension well. I'm off to the next chapter to see what happens.

Control issues, definitely. Anne wanted Mom to live with her. Barbara was more than happy that I was willing to care for her, but she was angry that Mom spent part of the inheritance to build her a living space in our house.

G'day Shari. Top work mate. I wonder why people react the way they do in times of stress instead of working together, as a family, mine is the same. Mum must have been a tiny woman for her wedding band to fit on your pinky. She is very beautiful, that's a great photo. Well done my friend. Cheers Fez

Both she and my sister Barbara had thin fingers. Thanks for commenting on the photo.

Depressing to say the least. Kudos to you for not provoking and thus prolonging the fight. Blessed are the peace makers...this reminds of a battle that raged in a family we knew...it came down to the two parties actually dividing (last item) the contents of the rag bag. :(

To look on the bright side, the deceased might be pleased that everyone wanted a part of him or her. :-)

Sad situation, well told. Why is it that the big events like weddings and funerals often cause families to take sides and declare war? You resist the urge to escalate the bad feelings here--good for you.

My husband was ready to go in there swinging. I don't dare take him out in public even now. LOL

Ah, yes the dividing of the spoils. This is always such fun, and can lead to bitter feuds that will last a life time. Funerals always seem to turn into a contest to see who can be center stage for the most dramatic. Well, it least in my family. Good chapter, I think you have caught the occasion very well.

How painful this must have been for you both mentally and emotionally. I know the feeling for at my step father's funeral one of his sons told me I could not ride with the rest of them as I was not family. These things hurt.
hugs

Wow! That's just plain mean. Well, what goes around comes around. At least, I like to think that.

Excellent title for this chapter. Fits your theme just right. There is no end to their picking on you. I think they want you to confront them, but you remained calm. They tried everything : changing your flowers to the back of the arrangements and seating in opposite pews. You have a lot of class. An excellent read.

Thanks, meggie. Teaching high school English is a good way to learn to keep cool. :-)

Why teaching high school English would be a good way to keep cool? I want to know(Smile)

Discipline problems, my dear. Who wants to read Shakespeare when it's more fun to use paint guns at posters. LOL

Aren't funerals such fun? My cousin's Patric's was tragic. Only one person sat on Kathleen's, his sister's, side of the church. She was such an offensive, obnoxious, and unlikable person. Everyone else sat on the on the other side leaving her completely alone. I think you handled the flower situation very well.

Wow! Wonder how she felt? This happens more than I thought.
reply by Sasha on 06-Aug-2015
Since none of us talked to her we will never know. She was not a likable person and probably the rudest person I have ever known. No one liked her, not even her family. Sad, but true.

Good for you for being the "shero" and not getting into a battle over flower arrangements. I feel sorry for Dee who seems to be intent on being a creator of animosity. She must be a miserable lady inside.

Your sisters are too much. Even at the funeral they are acting foolish. And the family snubbing you, probably your sisters doing. The beginning of this peace perfumed with harmony grace and love then your sister's action ruined the moment. They really have to get over themselves. Good Grief!
