I love the image of the struggle to drink or not to drink. In the end, a great choice. I had to laugh, as I could see myself pacing up and down the aisle in my younger days. The last line just puts the exclamation point on it. Great description of a great battle.

I enjoyed your poem. You explained the situation well. The reader gets a sense of the dilemma--how many of us have not "been there, done that?" Good job with the format. I like the pic.

Good job and thanks for sharing.

Man, this hit right near my front door.
Only my son was leaving work for a 20 mile
motorcycle ride home. [No booze] It hit the
news, [Man killed on I-40 when hit by a car
from the other side of the interstate]. I
looked at the clock it was 5:00. That is
right where he travels everyday. Grabbed the
phone, he said 'hello', oh hey mom. I almost
cried with relief. It scares me even though he
doesn't drink that he rides his bike on the
interstate. Maybe I should have skipped this.
You have broached a subject that some drinkers
never get until it is too late. Thank you for
putting another warning out there.

Wow. Your story sent chills down my spine. I'm glad your son was safe. I wrote my poem Friday when I was having a really bad day. I barely drink - maybe a glass or 2 of wine a month. I never drink to get drunk but I seriously thought about it that day and did go so far as to drive to the grocery to get some. I went for a bicycle ride instead:)

Thank you for the thoughtful comments. Parents worry so much
Though my son is 45 with 2 kids
he is still loved just as always, you
know. We are all alike. Cute picture.
Is it of you? Well, have a great night!

Something you said concerning you rode your bike rather than your cycle
to the store. I have not had time to
visit all my new friends port, but I am
going over to yours now. I want to see
    you guys pic. ::}}Joyce

Excellent and in a way sad photo that complements your poem perfectly. Bike or booze, the title, already gives alliteration. I don't think this fellow made his choice yet. I can see the picture.

Bicycles and booze mix only at the risk of spectacular results of a very negative nature. Your free verse conveys the difficulty of trying to communicate with a
tippler. Fine post.

bike or booze. I believe the best thing to do
is buy the booze go home and drink it, but
never drink and get on your bike. Not a little
of both.

It was fan reading your poem

No, not both for sure. I chose the bike ride - no booze:)

It is quite common to waver between having booze and doing something like cycling. Both offer some apparent advantages. One usually prefers to drink to drown sorrows. The results may not be as per expectation. Your poem has expressed nicely such wavering moments. The last option to have long ride must have been rewarding.

This poem's is a reminder to me that one ought to avoid the lure of the bottle and easy escapes dinking the way to "bliss" or passing out to oblivion. Unable to make even that small decision on what drink to buy, in an impaired state, the choice becomes to maybe take a long ride. A slice of life but not one I would want to live.

I was having a very bad day that day. I rarely drink and never to get drunk but I did think about it that day. The bike ride was good for me:)

Is it too much to ask for both, bike and booze? Drunk driving is drunk driving no matter what vehicular choice you choose to choose. Ha!

Very neat free verse poem. You give us the exact locale, the associated feelings and the angst for the choice.

Love it, Teresa.

Good use of alliteration with wobble my way and brown bag bottle, "t". Your funny accompanying photo compliments your poem perfectly.

Great work, and thanks for the laugh. ~Dean :)
