Okay, mikey, I'm going to mark you down on this. You assume at the opening that readers know it's a reply to the prompt. You know what assume means. You should make reference to FS somewhere in the first paragraph.
I propose that we base our vote on the quality of the piece and nothing else. -- that's an idealistic goal, but I ask myself am I that professional to make a judgment?
Love the bit about dog pictures, babies too. Many a prompt wins a contest based on the picture. So I would suggest that no pictures accompanying a poem.
However, I don't intend to enter, but will vote. Have read several so far. As you say, a lot or repetition. So if Tom reads them, maybe he'll consider changes other than changing the damn format of the site itself. :-)

Oh I really like this one Mikey! Two YEARS?? Really?? Ouch! Honestly - I can see the change in your writing in that time (and I've been off for about 6 months last year, or longer, while I was chasing theatre/improv stuff). Bravo to you for sponsoring this one (and forcing people to be civil). I always enjoy your sense of humor!

I agree that us newbies (I've been here for one year) can compete with newbies. You win and I'm somewhere! Ok, it's like playing tennis. I'm getting better. But, my beef is that people review need to vote. Why do we have so many contests about haiku this and that? I try to come up with creative contests, this is my fourth one about happiness and joy. Yes, people say that my haikus are short. LOL! I meet new authors in the contests and they become fans. I admit, I haven't been in your campsite with your barbeques and s'mores. I will soon. You've made some good points here, Michael, and I don't see many of the suggestions you've made for improving the overall experience here at FS as being too difficult to implement.
In relation to your #6 suggestion, there are other writing sites out there (I can't mention their names, of course, for fear of reprisal) which print magazines--tangible, honest-to-goodness printed copies, which you can hold in your grubby paws--featuring past contest winners and accepted published material, which you can purchase for a nominal fee made to PayPal. I don't see why FanStory shouldn't want to get in on that game themselves. It can only help to increase revenues because, let's face it, writers are a vain lot, for the most part. We like to see our stories and poetry in print.

I'm so delighted you like this, my friend. This was hopefully the take from those of us who love it here and are just looking for ways to improve something already great! We're on the same page. YAY!
