What an inspiring conclusion this was to that important phase in your life, Shari.

The only things I could find in way of nits were extra spaces between words. If you want to fix them, paste to word and it will show up as green squigglies under those extra spaces.

Also "acrylic" has only one "l"

Great chapter, Shari.

Thanks. I did as suggested and found five. I know one thing--the spell check on FS doesn't work! I'm pleased that you enjoyed this little break from the continuity of the story.

OK--keep going. What happens at the funeral? Once again you leave me wanting more. You are as good with this technique as James Patterson.

The proliferation of roses in your life following your mom's death and promise is intriguing. Were they there as signs or were you just more prone to notice them or some of both--who really knows and it doesn't matter. What matters is your interpretation of their meaning in the context of your situation. What matters is your belief.

The rose is an apt symbol here on so many levels. It represents fragility, beauty, serenity, condolence, eternity. It works in all those capacities in this segment regardless of whether its presence is "a coincidence or [sign] from beyond."

Interpretation, perhaps, but I've have similar experiences with other situations. For example, one time I kept sighting billboards, magazine articles, ads, etc on colonoscopies. So I decided to stop putting it off and made an appointment. Sure enough, the doctor found two precancerous polyps. Someone is watching over me.

That is fascinating. A collection of such anecdotes would be a good book in itself.

This is an excellent, comforting piece. Maybe I just want to be a believer, but I see too many coincidences for them not to be signs.

Thanks, Sandra. I'm glad to see I haven't read any nay sayers yet.

People (analytical people) are going to try and tell you that you can find "signs & wonders" anywhere, at anytime, if you're expecting and looking for them. That the preconceived notion you carry around with you when you're convinced that a loved one who has passed away will give you a "sign" will cause you to see things that you normally wouldn't see, simply because you're looking for them.

But I disagree. Oh, I realize when we sell a car, say a Ford Focus just for arguments sake, we see twice as many Focuses on the road than normal, it seems. They seem to be everywhere we look. Why? Because we have that model and that brand on our minds, so were simply going to notice them more than before.

However, there are things beyond this earthly realm and comprehension of mortal reasoning, things which cannot be "explained away" as pure coincidence. Like the things you've described here. Sure, you asked your beloved mother to send you a sign--roses--to let you know she was okay. And sure, some of these occurrences may be able to be explained away, like the pane on the door of the truckstop motel, for instance.
But what about Sammy Rose, and his transfer to East Bay just three months prior from a school in Long Island, New York? And what are the odds that it would be located in Jefferson County, which coincidentally was the same county that your mother lived in most of her life while residing in Watertown, New York?

Coincidence?

I don't think so...

I'm so glad you see that last bit about Sammy as being so close to the situation. This isn't the only time I've been sent signs--not a rose necessarily, but a warning that I need to see a doctor. One such warning included the dreaded colonoscopy. I was seeing the word everywhere. I stopped putting it off and sure enough, the doctor found two precancerous polyps.

That is exactly the sort of thing I'm referring to, Shari. ~Dean

I believe every bit of this, Shari. My daughter did the same thing during those early weeks of mourning, and she still shows up on occasions when big decisions being made in my or or brother's lives. We don't look for it. It just happens.
Sammy looks so proud and you are both so happy in the picture.

Thanks, Ellen. Sammy was a model student too. Interesting to know that you've had similar experiences. Spirits do stick around for a while to help us out.

I do believe in signs from beyond and it is a comfort to know that this can happen. At my uncles funeral, he definitely sent humor our way with the priest who read a prayer.

That sounds like an interesting story. Humor with a prayer? Was the priest a little inebriated?
reply by joann r romei on 02-Aug-2015
no but he stuttered and i hate to make humor of something like that but it was because we were all in tears, my uncle was only 60, hand he was a prankster, i miss him,
