Thank you Kaye, you have made this poem a history lesson and a pleasure to read.

Thank you for sharing. Now I need to go and read up more about this Last Emperor, and the Forbidden City.

You are welcome Kaye, I know I am not on here as often as I would like to be. Busy trying to finis my nove. Right now I am at a stanstill, I cannot seem to find my muse,or is it my muse cannot find me. We are in the middle of our rainy season, so working outside or playing golf is either too hot or too wet. So I have to be indoors.

This is such sad story in a poem I have read several books and seen the movie made about Pu Yi. He was really just a puppet and paid a high price for it too.

Thanks for dropping in. It was sad that he was a prisoner of his reign, didn't know what was going on outside his Forbidden City. Ended up as a gardener! Bless you, Kay.XX

This is a wonderfully artistic interpretation of his life. So strange that I actually watched the movie (for the thousandth time LOL) over the weekend so his story was fresh in my mind and you did a brilliant job with it. Nicely done and I thank you very much for sharing it.

Well, how about that! It was one of my favourite films too. So much work went into creating his court, costumery etc. Thank you for your kind review. Love, Kay XX

A very sad state of affairs poor Pu Yi, doomed from the start, must have lived a reasonably secluded existence, would probably have been lonely, he was very young when he died! Nicely written Kay, the meter is rhythmic and even, abab rhyming is great, smooth and good articulation in the narrative, well done, blessings, Roy.

Poignant. Far more than just history, but the mystery of life itself plays out here. My bet is his years as a gardener was the most rewarding. As I read I contrasted with Jesus. The cry of the people was "Give us a king". Yet Jesus preferred the simple life among the people, fishermen, shepherds and carpenters. Powerful!

Hello Jeanie, Thanks for reading. Pu Yi was governed by the court, all he wanted was to go outside the walls and meet his people. I think after ten years in jail, then becoming a gardener for the rest of his life he would have been most happy. I contrasted him with Czar Nicholas who lived in luxury and his people starved. Thank you dear friend, Love, Kay.

Hi Lois, Said I would surface. China fascinates me, as history tells the story of the Last Emperor. A little boy imprisoned in the Imperial court. Ending up as a gardener. He died young really. You can get the DVD out - called The Last Emperor. Love, Kay.
