Hi, Kay. I love your historically-based poems. I remember seeing the movie that was made about this man. I believe it was titled the Last Emperor of China. It was a fascinating re-telling of this man's rather sad life.

Another winner!

Hugs, Bev

Fascinating history lesson put in verse and poem. What a great way to learn something that otherwise would have gone unnoticed. I especially liked our closing stanza as it brought Pu Yi down to earth - victim a fate to wit all men are destined - death. Great job! Loren

G'day Loren, Yes, all great men eventually fall. He was a puppet Emperor controlled by the Qing Dynasty; he just wanted to see outside the Forbidden City, he got his wish in the end, eventually became a very humble gardener. Thanks for reading. Hugs, K.

Hi Kay You did a brilliant job on Pu-Yi. The only thing I would add in your notes is the following information:

"While still a child, he ruled as the Xuantong Emperor from 1908 until his abdication on 12 February 1912, after the successful Xinhai Revolution. From 1 to 12 July 1917, he was briefly restored to the throne as a nominal emperor by the warlord Zhang Xun. In 1932, after the occupation of Manchuria and Manchukuo was established by Japan, he was chosen in assuming the title of Chief Executive of the new state using the era name of Datong (Ta-tung). In 1934, he was declared the Kangde Emperor (Kang-te Emperor) of the puppet state of Manchukuo by the Empire of Japan, and he ruled until the end of the Second Sino-Japanese War in 1945."

This is why the Communists imprisoned him in 1949 for working with the Japanese; although he argued with them in private - he was subservient in public. You did a real good job on his Biography.

G'day Alan, Thank you for reading. Yes, I have all the information on him. Would you believe some noted writers never heard of him? Oh, well some people never read outside their space. Love, Kay.

My friend, it is very good to hear from you. I hope you are enjoying life.

This was a wonderful little story in a poem. You are so good at writing these kinds of poems. This was very interesting. I had never heard of Pu Yi. I'm glad I read your author's notes too. They filled in a little of the story. I could not have turned away from this poem. It held my attention very well. Thank you for sharing it, my friend.

Always with respect,

Hello my friend, Nice to hear from you too. I haven't felt like writing since I heard about Brooke (she is now in a nursing home) she was my mentor for five years and now she is dying of MS. Anyway, I picked up my pen and wrote about Pu Yi, most famous last Emperor of China. Hope you are well? Love, Kay.

Yes, I and Marcia are doing well. We lost our pet bird, Bubba, who gave us his love for 15 years. Because of him, I'm no longer in the mood to write about animals. I'm going to write about something else for a while.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend, Brooke. I've heard a lot of praise about her. I hope she is not in a lot of pain.

Best wishes to you and yours, my friend. You are always in my prayers. I will add Brooke also.

    Always with respect,

I enjoyed reading this lovely poem and it brought back memories of a movie I saw many years ago named The Forbidden City. Thank you for jogging my memory.

Hello dear friend Loyd, I do try to tell stories in poem. Haven't been able to write since I heard about Brooke (adewpearl) she is in a nursing home, can't string sentences together. Thanks for dropping in. Love, Kay.

I didn't know that. It's so sad. Could you send me a PM and give me the details?

Brooke (adewpearl) is in a nursing home. If you use Facebook her daughter is there. She did give Sandra Brooke's phone number. Sandra told me that she couldn't hold a conversation, not much point in phoning. I can ask Sandra for the number if you like? Let me know.

That would be fine, thank you. Loyd

Hi Kaye
So nice to see a post from you in my box, I've probably missed some as I've not been on-line as much as I'd like.

I remember seeing the movie 'The Last Emperor'. I don't remember him being a tyrant. I always enjoy a good poem that educates and informs, especially about history.

Excellent presentation, great rhyme and rhythm. Informative and entertaining. You've covered his life-time well and a good length. Thanks for the Author's Notes. I hope I find some time to look up his story. Well done. I hope you're well ... it's freezing down here ... though I hear it is heater weather in sunny QLD. Warm hugs - Lovi xoxo

I remember watching a movie about the last emperor. Your words capture his life and the lack of freedom, even though he lived in luxury. I was not aware he died in 1967, not that long ago. Excellent historical poem.

I had forgotten about this evil man. He and the Emporer of Japan. They were something. The mystical Orient. People with strange ways always that always intrigued the people of the western world. Well done Kay. Nancy

Hello Nancy, Thanks for reading, the mysteries surrounding the Orient fascinate me. The castrating of his slaves (eunuchs) was unbelievable. Hope you are well. Love, Kay.
