Your aunt doesn't seem to understand diplomacy at all. I guess she thinks she gets what she wants by yelling. When I worked in a credit card call center we had people that would call to ask for fees to be adjusted. Surprisingly the ones that were all apologetic about something coming up and then asking if there was anyway a late fee adjusted often got it. The ones who demanded and yelled were held accountable for their actions and had to pay. Flys with honey...

It seems your mother's attitude was also colored by her sister's. Attitude can make such a difference in any situation. She needed the care and she was in an excellent place to get it. Again, I don't see your aunt volunteering to be of help, just causing unnecessary problems.

Another we'll written installment. You know how to get the feelings to the page.

Thanks, debi. Aunt Dee liked to think she was the only one who cared about my mother.
Definitely a bad influence in this case.

Your story is very typical, I witness family stuff like you describe in the nursing home. Fortunately, residents when they fall, are not on the floor for very long. I am looking forward to the next chapter, you aunt is quite a character and she is strong, sounds like she wants things her way.

Glad to hear that. I don't think Mom had any concept of time.

I know you love your Aunt but even people we loved can be destructive. Maybe this is the only way she knows how to show it. This chapter like the last one reaches out to those on this site going through the same thing. I hope on the next chapter things work out for your mother and Aunt.

My aunt was a trip and had some admirable character traits. I thick she acted this way because she was scared of losing her sister.

Thanks, Fez. Although yelling and screaming does work for my husband when someone tries to pull something over on him.

Short chapter, but full of action and excitement. Your aunt sure liked to rule the roost, Shari. She would have driven me nuts. Look forward to reading the next installment.
Smiles,
Karyn :-)

Relatives can be such dicks. Half the time the won't do anything themselves, but the always seem to have the answers when you try to do something. Usually, it the wrong answers, too. I know been through this myself on a couple of occasions. A sad and frustrating chapter, but well written, Spitfire.

OMG I couldn't go through this twice. Thank heavens Frank didn't want anything to do with his uncles and nephews and nieces.

That scene with her falling really bothers me. No matter how good a facility, accidents can happen and circumstances (such as not being able to reach the cord)can interfere with the help needed.

This is another good chapter, Shari. I hope you've been busy with good things. Hugs, Lou

It bothered me too, but I think Dee exaggerated it. She had a habit of doing that.

I enjoyed reading your story about your mother, I can see why she didn't want to go to a rest home. I fear one day I may have to go too. You did a great job creating interesting characters and a suspenseful plot. I like the format, it is easy to read. Good job!

Aunt Dee had issues from way back, I suspect. She would never discuss her past with anyone.

My mother came from a generation where families bought big houses and fit everyone in. My generation or at least me would prefer assisted living to staying with my children. I love them and vice versa. I want it to stay that way, if you know what I mean. Thanks for taking time to review and give me your thoughts.
