A longing for a love that's gone is more than clear, as write as if she's still here, but you know she isn't. Very emotional. My favorite:

"Go on back to the memory
You can't get off your mind
Tangled sheets tell the story
Of the love you'll never find "

Wonderful writing. Les

A poem of loss and remembering. Where has it all gone? How did that happen?
This poem is full of unanswered questions. it is evocative of lost love.

What a beautiful but sad poem. I can relate to this as I found myself in a similar situation with my first husband. After several years I gave up and went my own way. Love the artwork, it does go well with the poem. I could find nothing wrong with this work and I loved reading it.

So sad. Beautifully written. I love how you used the first stanza as the last stanza, it tells me that there is still hope and unconditional love. Sometimes we can get a little too comfortable in a relationship and one or both parties can begin to bore and start craving a love lost or a new desire. Love is something that takes a constant work to keep it fresh and new. You have described the consequences so perfectly. Great work. I have been there myself.

This reads very like one of your lyrics and should in my opinion have beeen entered into the love poetry competition where it would have provided yet another take on the old theme of "lurve"! It's true though what you say, you cant'keep hold of them if they don't want to stay.

I guess, the person can not imagine how someone could now, but it isn't hard to guess. Well expressed thoughts on a difficult subject and excellent rhyming. Two things: verse 5, lying (verb lay takes an object, verb lie which you mean here does not) Verse 7, tangled sheets. Enjoyable read. Faye

Just one suggestion. Fourth last verse.

In the final two lines you use the word 'walking' twice. To my mind you'd get a better flow if you changed the second 'walking' to 'heading' out the door

Hi Brett, excellent and well written poem / song, your words flow beautifully as the reader is slowly taken down the page to a repeat of the first stanza which gives it strength.
