Sometimes it's the ones that seemed to be hard on us are the ones who actually taught us and loved us best. Nice rhyme and flow. I'm sure this special lady who invested so much would be thrilled about this poem in her honor.

As an elementary teacher, this really resonates with me, because you never know at the time, how you may help or change a life. You did a very good job of taking the reader though all of the emotions you felt growing up with life's troubles. Thank you for finding such a week written way to share your story and your thanks to Mrs. Baker.

This poem expresses love, anger and gratitude to her teacher.
The rhyming is like a slinky carrying the reader from line to line in an even flow. The rhythm takes us from word to word.
The reader feels each emotion the writer expresses.
Good luck with the contest.

Those who teach us never do quite realise the extent of the influence they sometimes have. She would, of course, have seen the beginnings of it, and that itself would have been some reward for her faith and perseverance. It is always a matter of regret when we find that we have left it too late to give thanks to people for what they have done for us. This is powerfully expressed in your poem.

The world hurts for the lack of Mrs. Bakers. So nice to share your tribute to a wonderful person as you describe in poetry. Well done.

I can definitely relate to how this child felt. Receiving help for speech problems as a child can bring hurt and shame; but the real value is seen later in life. The loss felt is very heartwarming.

I had one of those, a teachers help. He took over from his wife, but I was a surly child as well and never thanked them for their help. If not for them, I'd be in jail or dead. Good luck in the contest and thank you for sharing.

I connect with your poem on so many levels; as a child myself with dyslexia (before anyone knew the term), as a special education teacher, and as a mother of a child with Asperger's. What an incredible journey from insecurities and being taunted to realizing the "write" way. I truly believe that stellar authors have to experience a spectrum of emotional situations to ignite their talents. And.....the guidance of the humble Mrs. Bakers of the world. Excellent tribute!

So well told. Excellent. It was personal and I want to thank you for sharing. I understood this poem because I was a special needs kid. I went to a class with two of the most popular boys and we worked with the teacher and I got to know those two boys closely. No one ever made fun, but they wanted to. They didn't because Paul and Bill were so popular. If they made fun of me that meant they were making fun of those two as well. But it went unsaid and was in the air. This woman was special.
Again, well done, and thanks for sharing.
