Great descriptions, Shari, as I could easily see the reception area. What a slam not to inform you of the introduction line. And doesn't the photographer take pictures of the families right after the ceremony? Please don't tell me they didn't include you in the photographs! Did every table have a costumed mannequin? Only one tiny addition...

Jeff had the grace of (a) cow.

Smiles,
Karyn :-) and congratulations again on your Recognized Writer award!

Except for Jeff and his best man and parents, we dressed early and went to a park and posed outdoors for the photographer--the bridesmaids, etc. and Nichole with both of us. If pictures were taken after the ceremony, I never got any copies. Yes, to my knowledge we had the only mannequin. Perhaps in honor of Lee and his wife's annual Halloween bash which they didn't have that year.

What a joke of a set-up. It angers me just reading about it. I enjoyed this well written chapter of your life. I am surprised you did not explode with fury. But then again, it's your daughter's wedding. This was an enjoyable chapter with the exception of the missing good manners. You are an honorable lady for putting up with it for your daughter's sake. I'm proud of you, my friend. Best wishes.

Always with respect,

Thanks, Eigle. Yes, I managed to behave myself, but I let it all out once I got home.

It sounds like it was a tense and embarrassing situation to be in. I suppose misunderstandings happen, although, some might be planned by others. Who knows? The possibility of not passing on information of where to sit or go does spring to mind.

Not passing on information for sure. That burned me up most! But I've finally let everything go.

That has to be the most bizarre wedding and reception I have ever heard of. I can fully understand your discomfort in the way it seemed orchestrated to downplay your presence.

Still, it was an entertaining read, so some good came out of it.

Yep, I had quite a story to tell my co-workers when I started work again.

Hell, I hate to say it, and I mean no disrespect, Shari. But I would've been ready to head home right after the newlyweds exchanged their odd vows to each other.

I realize I'm a bit old fashioned, but I believe there are some things you shouldn't meddle with. Black magic, Alchemy, and the sanctity of the traditional wedding vows. Not to mention the ceremony itself. It's almost as if they were making a mockery of the whole thing. But, that's just my opinion.

As for me, if my daughter were to inform me she was having the sort of wedding ceremony Nichole and Jeff had, no matter how pissed off my daughter, my wife, and everyone else involved got at me, I'd refuse to attend. Which probably explains why -- at almost 55 (I hit that milestone on June 21), I've been through two failed marriages and am still single today.

Other than being pretty much cast aside and forced to play second fiddle to Jeff's folks, you seemed to have at least enjoyed yourself. Had I been your hubby rather than Frank, you would have had to tell me all about it when you got home.

Good writing... :}

Yea! You're a Cancer like me. (I turn another year older on June 24. The idea of Halloween wedding shocked me at first, but Nichole had no use for organized religion when she turned sixteen. All she saw was the hypocrisy of church goers who denounced Jews and Catholics and African Americans. Each of us has to find a spiritual energy they feel comfortable with. She does believe in a divine being and angels and life after death.

I think Jeff was probably more responsible for the type of ceremony that was eventually decided upon than Nichole was, if the truth were known. Of course, my former wife and I had a very traditional wedding ceremony, and look how far that got us. Twenty-two years, that's it. So, maybe there's something to this pagan wedding theory after all, LOL...

G'day Shari. This is anothervery well written chapter in this most extraordinary world of yours. I have to ask the question of why Nichole didn't realise that her parents were not there for the entrance, but I'm sure you have that coming to us in future chapters. Well done, cheers Fez

I never found out the answer, Fez, but she did defend her choice of where we sat.

That sucks. Unanswered questions remain in my mind until I get the answer, I'm pig headed.

I'm sure she was too wrapped up in the thrill of the moment to notice it until after the fact.

I believe you have every reason to feel slighted. Did Nichole put you, Frank, and the others in the corner or did the mother of the groom? Her question seems to imply that, or perhaps it's you inner voice making an accusation. This trip does not seem to have been a good one for you. Lots of hurt feelings. I imagine it took a while to heal all the wounds.

The explanation of the tables will come in the next chapter. Nichole didn't mean to offend us, but I'm betting Jeff insisted his parents have the better table. More later about the time to heal. I've already started the next chapter. Tired of it now.
Want to get back to my job--a big hurt there-- about two more chapters away.
