Well Sandra, Her daddy said all the right words to explain why and where her mommy had gone. I know you had the same problem telling your young sons when their daddy died. It is very sad when words are all you have to take the pain away. Too bad this isn't in a contest. Well done my friend. Nancy

Thank you, my friend. Yes, much of this came from my chat to my sons. The hardest thing I have ever done, and would never wish it on anyone else. Life is like that though, we have to carry on, and I am happy to say, my wonderful sons grew up to be amazing men. Their dad would be so proud. Thanks again, Nancy. xsx sandra

Wow, Sandra. This was an intensely compelling poem from the innocent view of a little girl who lost her mother. So much so, i got tears as i read it. It really touched me. Excellent abab rhymed quatrains with a poignant closing couplet. Strong iambic pentameter. A fabulous poem.

LOL - I'm cracking up at your notes. I call them brain freezes or having a foggy brain. I can't even blame it on getting older 'cause I've always been like this. However, it has gotten worse.

At any hoot, this poem is excellent, Sandra, and really touched my heart. Perfectly chosen rhymes and exquisite meter make this a joy to read.

And then there's the message. I don't think anyone could have handled this delicate subject better than you did in this piece. This is absolutely a wonderful poem to help and comfort children coping with the loss of their mothers. Hugs, Lou

It's terrible, Lou, I will soon be writing a note to myself to put on my bedside table saying, "The man laying beside you is your husband, so don't go getting all excited!!!" LOL! Thank you for your great review, Lou, and a huge hug for the 6 stars! xxx Sandra

This is stunning! In loose terms we humans are animals too, but that persnickety committee would probably not have taken such a liberal point of view. This is simply mesmerizing in the way it flows and the gentle solace given to a child in the midst of loss. IF the contest had not been about animals THIS would have been a sure winner. Nicely done and I thank you very much for sharing it.

Thank you so much for those sweet words, my friend. It's not the first time I've done that, I really must read things properly! It definitely is an age thing, at least that is my excuse! I am really pleased you liked it! :) xsx Sandra

Whatever the prompt to make you write this, I'm so glad you did. Although sad, your lovely poem holds a beautiful message, and reminds us that death is only a temporary separation when we truly love someone.

So glad it's Sunday!

Aww, thank you, Alexis. I had to tell my sons' something similar when their dad died, it's not an easy thing to do, but my boys have grown up in the nicest way knowing their dad would be close by. Thank you for the super 6, I will be flying up to give you a big hug! :) Sandra. xsx

OMG Sandra - you certainly know how to tug at the heartstrings. This brought tears to my eyes (mention of mother always does). I, like you, have senior moments but for a while I was a child again as I read this. Beautifully written, good rhyme in abab an flows so well. Glad you had a senior moment otherwise you may never have written this lovely poem. Love Dorothy xx

You are so lovely, Dorothy, thank you so much. You are like me, when I mention mum, I think about mine, it is so hard knowing I can't just pop in and see her for a chat. This poem was similar to the way I explained to my two sons why their dad died. They found it hard but accepted it a little better knowing he was no longer in pain. That is what we must remember. Still hard. Thank you and a huge hug for the 6 stars, my friend. :) Sandra

Ah Sandra - so you are without your husband and your mother. Life does not get easier does it. The years pass so quickly and there comes a time when people begin to disappear from our lives. And there's nothing we can do about it. I always feel I can solve any problem I'm up against - but nothing can be done about that. Regards Dorothy xx

My husband died thirty years ago, it was a very bad time for me, but my sons were amazing. I did remarry years later when the boys were grown up and leading their own lives, with their blessing. They are good friends. Graham's wife had died years before leaving him to bring up three sons and they are great friends with my boys. All five are married with children. Brian is still very much with me, I see him every time I look at our boys, they both have something of him in them. Thanks, Dorothy. xx

Sandra: This is beautiful and kind for the loss of a mom and wife. I wrote in the contest about my cats and kittens. I like how you say she has a lot to learn and just pray and she hears you. Stay connected. Think of all the saints in Heaven to talk to.
Enjoy your precious family Sandra. I like your poetry and stories. Writing is great therapy for us. Add more protein shakes with fruit for brain power and walk more. This is what I do. My daughters and I walk dogs and do pilates - work the core!

Thank you so much, Nancy, for your lovely review, and for the brain tip! I am seriously in need of something, and will try your protein shakes and I am definitely going to walk more. I have a spine and neck problem so have to be careful, what is pilates like? Does entail lots of bending? Thanks again, my friend! xsx Sandra.

Me too, Sandy. I don't do contest any longer. I keep getting disqualified. They say I don't know how to write poetry and they are right on, but you do. Thanks for allowing me to read you nice poem.

Sandra, You made me want to cry. This is a sad poem,
but happy, too. Sad to have loved ones leave us, but
good to think of them with God and no more pain.

Thank you so much, Judy, for your lovely review. To talk to children about a parent dying is so hard, I had to do it when my husband died, but it needn't be horrible. My sons accepted their dad was in too much pain and would be free from it in heaven. Still hard though. Thanks again, my friend. :) Sandra
