I am trying to choke back tears right now. My wife passed away eight years ago and this poem brings back a lot of painful memories. Many of the things you put in your poem are the same things I had said to my kids when they would talk about their mother.
All that aside, your poem was touching, elegant, and poignant. The rhyme was awesome as was the rhythm. The message is one that all widow/widowers should give to their kids in this situation.
This poem should be in a book about coping with death.

Thank you so very much, Michael, for your wonderful comments and thoughts on my poem. I am really sorry you lost your wife. It is really good that your children were able to talk to you about their mother. You have done everything right. I hope your pain will ease, it does take a long time, but pain mellows. These are the words I told my sons when my husband died. It can be so traumatic for children if they are not sat down with and talked to in the right way. My sons grew up to be amazing men, and a credit to me. I am really proud of them. Thank you again, Michael, and thank you for the lovely 6 stars. xsx sandra.

When a child is small, it must be very hard to explain to a child why one parent has passed away. You have written this very tenderly in a way a child can understand. Excellent rhyming and sentiment. I am freezing in Sweden, back in a week. Most enjoyable, Sandra. Fayex

Thank you so much, Faye. I hope you are having a nice time, but more, I hope you are wrapped up warm! It's been quite nice here. I want to read a nice poem about the lovely scenery in Sweden when you come home! :) Sandra

Your lovely poem about how a child's father explains to his young daughter that her mother has died, and know resides in heaven with God sends a message of love and caring on all their parts.

Sandra, this is a powerful piece of poetry. Showing us how the wee ones can handle when it is presented to them. I really enjoyed the great conversation between the father and daughter. I loved it when she told her daddy, that when she grows up, she will take care of him like mommy did. An exceptional piece of poetry. Well done my friend, well done! Love you very much, Jim xxx

Guess you can write a companion piece about Daddy having to tell her that her dog passed away - LOL. Seriously, this was a wonderful piece, so touching and focused on the innocence and simplicity of children when they must deal with such a sorrowful topic. I enjoyed it, and uncharacteristically for me, made it through dry-eyed.

Thank you, Linda. It is a tough one to talk about to children, but they are stronger than we give them credit for. They do understand if told in the way they can feel the parent is still 'there' even though they are in heaven. Thanks again! :) Sandra

Very nice artwork and well written from the viewpoint of a child. So sad when a child misses out on a parent that passes away. This is a great contest entry. So sorry it turned out to be a different contest.

Very sweet poem with a child's voice. I thought the poem rhymed very well and had a nice 10 beat rhythm and a great couplet at the end. Loved the art work that you chose for the poem. Great job.

Wow, what a great poem, Sandra. I love it. It's very hard when young children lose someone dear in their life to let them know that they will see them again some day and they are still loved. A very neat poem. :>D Miss Sally

Hi there

Damn, damn, damn it! I am supposed to be a big, hard man, and not almost blub my eyes out at a poem. I hate you.

But you can still have six stars.
