All, apologies for the copy-and-paste reply. It's only because I've had so many beautiful, wonderful, touching replies to my poem and I have so very much to get done in the wake of my Dad's passing.

You've helped me more than you can know and I'll be thinking about your encouraging comments when I read my poem aloud on Wednesday.

Your words mean more than I can say, and I thank you deeply.

A poem in honor of a relation who just died. There is a token of courage in the poem, given that it was written by a bereaved, who ironically used his poem to encourage others.

From this poem I get the message that death serve as points from which memories grow like a seed growing to become a huge tree, creating an opportunity to recall the good past, a chance to recall challenges and victories of our lives.

I pray he rests in peace.

First of all...
Please accept my condolences on the loss of your father.
I can't begin to know what you're going through, so I won't pretend that I do.
I know grief... but I don't know YOUR grief...

That being said... I am truly sorry that you're feeling pain.

I'd like to say... this poem is absolutely beautiful. To come before you without a six star rating is almost bordering insulting, and for that... I am most apologetic... I do not have one... but if I did... i would most graciously offer it with the utmost of honor.

This part of the poem, especially, touched me very deeply:

'An ending is a chance
to look back over time
at rivers we have crossed
and mountains we have climbed.

A memory is potent -
the first note of a score,
evoking ten for every one
emotion held in store.

It blossoms from a moment
and blooms into a scene,
reminding us of laughs and loves
and all that lies between.

It brings to life a story
and tells it with a twist,
of people and of places known,
so they will not be missed.

These are the gifts we're left with
from those we leave behind,
the nuggets carried with us,
forever to remind. '

I think that those words could easily go down in poetic history...
They are beautiful and can suit everyone for any occasion...
they fit for anyone's loved one, and touch any heart which is open.
The other words, while very lovely and spoken from the heart,
are more pointed toward your own father...
which is fine... yet to me, these could easily stand alone,
and stand the test of time.

Again, I am so sorry that you have lost your father,... it seems that you were very close... (a relationship that I envy) and I am sorry that you have this loss to your life.

A VIRTUAL SIX in every way.
Love and laughter to you,
Cat

PS: special thanks, Cat. I wanted this to be a poem inspired by Dad rather than about him, with the ending more focused for the purpose of the funeral. As such, you have locked onto exactly what I hoped to achieve. Your words are like gold.

Your poem is emotional and heartfelt. I enjoyed reading it and I am sorry for your lost. I lost my father a few years ago, so I understand how you feel. I think it is beautiful that you were strong enough to write this poem in memory of your father and for the funeral. I know your mother is proud of you and I'm sure she likes the poem. The poem flows and rhymes well and I like the original picture you used.

I like your poem in its entirety, but especially the first and third paragraphs.

Yes, much simpler, Mike, and I like it. I'm so sorry for your loss. Your dad was very young. I lost mine when he was only 43 - a true shock, but it's never easy, no matter what the age, especially if the relationship was good. Sounds like yours was. Mine was too, and I'm so thankful for the memories I have.

Great rhyme and meter, and a smooth read from beginning to end. Good message, too.

Your poem is a beautiful expression of your love for your father, and I am sure he loved you and that you two were very close. I am sorry for your loss. I am not a poet, but
by a remarkable coincidence I just posted a devotional to my Mom and Dad, 'And In Death.' Your poem was longer and related many things I wish I had said.
May you find relief reading your at your dad's funeral, I know he will be listening.

A lovely poetic expression of fond memories as a tribute to your recently departed dad. I'm sure he will be smiling while you read this at the church. Endings and beginnings, nicely posted.

A wonderful poem and tribute to a wonderful man. My father's death of cancer three years ago launched me into writing poetry. While his death was an ending for him, it was a beginning for me. Your sincere, heartfelt poem will be well received at your father's funeral. This is one of many of my favorite passages:

These are the gifts we're left with
from those we leave behind,
the nuggets carried with us,
forever to remind.

For me, your poem hits a raw nerve because I am still recovering from my father's loss. Like you, I ponder what his life and death means for me.

Thank you for sharing. You have my condolences.

You're welcome. It is very hard. Father's Day is coming up and I will have to endure another one without a call or a card from my father. I pray you have strength to get you through this period.

This is a lovely tribute to your Dad, but also quite an inspirational piece for anyone who has experienced such a loss. The rhyme and meter flow smoothly throughout and, while simple in construction evokes a steady flow of powerful emotions. Nicely done and I thank you for sharing it.
