I have lived in Illinois over 40 years...and remember this fire well...it broke my heart as I love horses...your story is very well told...and the picture heartbreaking...so sad...still makes me cry...luff Linda xxoo

This is so great but tragic in what it was based on. I remember that horrible fire and all of the beauties that did not make it. You did an excellent job telling the story. I see no changes. Good job with the rhyme and flow. Good luck in the contest. Thanks for the author notes. And, yes, horses go to Heaven. {check out Rainbow Bridge--Google it].

This IS a great story within a poem. It seems like this story was made to be told in verse. I can only imagine the prose story to be, although tragic, rather so-so in comparison.
First line... out here

What a brilliant story so well told in good abcb rhyme form. A very tragic story that held the reader in its grip right until the end wondering what was going to happen to the horses. One could not help but enjoy this piece of writing, realistic, imaginative and told in an intelligent way. That final stanza takes some beating - a wonderful way to end your story. Surely you should do well in the contest. Good Luck. Warm regards Dorothy x

Excellent writing, suspense, and tragedy in your poem! The story, compelling though sad. The characters in your story were so courageous, and your question at the end revealed the young girl's mindset! This was definitely a six star poem, and a delightful read! What a talent for writing!

That's a unique story line, well-told and captivating
Although the title already hinted that one or more horses would not survive, I read it anyway, ('cause death's just a part of life) and I'm glad I did. It's a touching poem that moves at just the right pace.

Hello poet friend. An exciting and action filled poem, story of a couple of different rescues that took place. The ending was great and left the reader questioning. Nice poem.
Congratulations on the entry of your poem-story. I wanted to come by and review each one. My very best to you in the contest.

Nice tribute to these animals you have written here. Yes, tragedies do happen to more than the human species. Well done.
