It's so sad and so real that someone would con someone else to get into their bank account. Happens quite a bit and older people are often times the ones scammed. I like the plan they came up with to fool Deirdre and it seemed to work. Can't wait to see what happens next!

Sadly, it happens a lot, which is one of the reasons I included it. Forewarned is forearmed, and as we get older, con men see more opportunities to take peoples money and get away with it. I wish it wasn't true, but it seems to be getting worse. Alexis x

"topped up their mugs from the (cafeteria)..." - spell check confirmed my version of the word in brackets.

I have no clue what, "bags the job" means. LOL!!!

"She purred down the phone" made me smile. I could picture it perfectly. Excellent description. When I get caught in my work I'm sure I purr into the phone too :)

Your characters are easy to like and seem real to me.

It frightens me to think of my old age and keeping others from stealing my money. A real concern for a lot of people.

Looking forward to the next chapter.

It did the same to me on spell check, so I had to get it off Goggle in the end. It's the name of a cylindrical glass jug with a handle which you put ground coffee into and leave for two or three minutes. You then plunge down a kind of sieve that traps the coffee at the bottom, and leaves great coffee above. 'Bagsy' means 'I claim' in the UK. Thanks to your review, I've now added an explanation of both to my author's notes. Thank you! Alexis x

A smooth exciting read, although I might suggest you take a second look at words ending in -ly. Most times they can be deleted. i.e.
Patsy's had to sign various forms recently, so Deirdre obviously thought that by slipping another one under

Patsy's had to sign various forms in the past two months, so Deirdre thought that by slipping another one under...

Clever ending with the mention of the police. Deidre knows she's discovered the scam.

Well, they appear to have solved the problem of Patsy's friend Deidre, they contrived a plan, knowing that Patsy was due home about 3:30, her so called friend would be anxious that she wasn't home, when the phone rang, she asked if the person would like the phone number of the police station, there was a click at the other end, problem solved! Well done, great little story, well done, Alexis, blessings, Roy, good writing,

Yes, I think we've got rid of Deirdre for good. It's now time for Patsy to get a life of her own, and hopefully without taking over the whole book! Alexis x

Deidre has conned Patsy. And isn't this typical:
she couldn't go through the humiliation of a court case, because it would make her look incredibly stupid to be so trusting.
Yes, I can imagine!

Sadly, it's often the case. That and not being able to afford to take it to court because these cases are often classed as 'civil' as opposed to 'criminal.' It would probably cost as much to get a court judgement as what they stole in the first place, and even then, you might not get your money. You can understand why some people take the law into their own hands! My sincere thanks for the six, Nicole. Alexis x

The sad part of all this is that it happens all the time. It's not that they can't fight it in court and win back the rights to their own money, but the fact is that so many times, it would take a couple years worth of lawyer fees and time to settle the case. Therefore, it's many times cheaper and less aggravating in the long run to just forfeit the money, which the crooks already know. Thanks for another fun chapter. :-)

You've hit the nail in the head. Most things like this are classed as 'civil' cases, so the state won't prosecute the bad guys. Usually the ones conned cant afford to pursue it. Sad, but true. Alexis x

I just love where you're taking this story and the fascinating characters we get to invite into our imagination at each juncture.

And I learned a new word. What could be better?

'We tell her that Patsy's out,' she eventually added. [lower case "W" since it is the completion of the sentence.]

'Bagsy the job of talking to Deirdre [Don't understand "Bagsy" here. >> Google tells me is is British for "to claim for oneself". I understand it now in context.]

To be honest, I never expected to get into this one as quickly as I have, but it's been fun so far. A hotel is a great place to introduce new and interesting characters whilst keeping them in the same place, and my past experience has given me loads of material to work with. Yes, Bagsy is possibly more Scottish than British. When you 'bagsy' something, you lay claim to it.
Thank you for the yet another encouraging and helpful review, and of course the shining stars.

This is very well written and thoroughly engaging. I thought it flowed well and the dialog was in keeping with the situation and character development to date. Nicely done and I thank you for sharing it.

So Deirdre, having a guilty conscience will assume Patsy is on to her scheme and has gone to the police about it. Good Job. They were able to help Patsy and let her save face in the doing. Love your new Profile picture Alexis. xoxox Nancy

Hopefully! Having created Deirdre's character, I had to think of a way of getting rid of her. Hopefully, this will do it! Alexis x

Brilliant!!! Well done! That will sort that woman out. I hate people like that. Graham's mother had a sister in a private nursing home, well not a nursing home as such, she had her own little flat in the home, and they came in to help her when she needed anything, she was 93. One day someone came through the main door and went round the flats to find an open door, Lilly's door was ajar so they went in and stole all her money and even took her diamond engagement ring off her finger. It was dreadful, she died a week later, and nothing was done about it. I was furious! they were worried it would give them a bad name, and Grahams mum didn't want to upset anyone. I hate people who take advantage of old people. Anyway, brilliant page, my friend!! :) Sandra

Won't she just ring Patsy when (then) she finds out....

I'm sure there are loads of stories like this, but the people who are conned either can't afford to take it to court, or can't bear the humiliation of looking so stupid to be conned in the first place. I must admit, my experience in France, when that couple stole the money for my electricity bill, was a huge eye opener for me. I ended doing nothing about it in case the did something to the house when I wasn't there. These people run a restaurant and an estate agency. Just like Deirdre being a district nurse, you would think they could be trusted. That's why these people get away with it. Bless you for the six, Sandra. I really appreciate it! Alexis xxx
