omg, you and hubby sure got yourselves into trouble. Is Nichole livid, or crying? The wedding guests sure look like they're going to a fancy dress party. Your story is moving along nicely but you've baited the hook and haven't thrown it into the water yet. Can't wait for the next installment. Wendy.

I didn't intend to do that. My muse took control! It happened in 1999, so hopefully, she's forgotten even if I haven't.

Your picture really captures the spirit of the wedding. You give interesting descriptions of all the interesting characters who showed up for the wedding/costume party. I think I mentioned attending a Halloween wedding where the guests wore costumes. That was quite a response from Nicole, telling you if you weren't happy, maybe you should go back home. The feelings about the wedding really come through in this. We get Frank's disapproval. You seem to be trying to look on the bright side. judi

Looking on the bright side didn't happen until this write. I'm trying to come to terms with my own insensitivity.

Given the circumstances, I don't think you were insensitive. judi

Being a mother can be the most difficult and stressful think in a woman's life...I know, I am still in recovery from raising my to daughters. How sad, doesn't seem to matter what you say, it will be taken the wrong way. What a strange wedding...and I thought getting married by an Elvis impersonator was odd...this would have put me over the edge for sure.

LOL. I loved all the costumes, particularly the Druid. A picture of the bride and groom coming next. They didn't wear costumes, thank goodness. Jeff would have come as a ghoulish creature.

Oh boy! Just what I thought, when one is not accepting of another's plans and one party cannot see fault where it truly lies , watch out for fireworks. This is true of any family, however, you make the reader realize our own misgivings. Great read.

Thanks, Leen. I appreciate your insightful comment. This is therapy for me to let the past go.

This is excellent. The imagery of the costumed wedding attendees created a surreal feeling that, I imagine, is what you felt you were experiencing. The scene in the car, re-created so very skillfully with your precise words and deliberate manipulation of syntax, drips with tension.

It is hard to find the compromise between objectivity and subjectivity in writing like this. The subject matter is so very personal, and yet some distance is necessary in order to engage the reader. You walk that tightrope expertly.

Drips with tension--only a top notch writer could come think of that description. Love it. Appreciate the insightful comment about walking a tightrope. Personal it is, so I may change it into a novel some day and rachet up the emotions.

Well, that certainly sounds different! I went to a pagan wedding in New Mexico last summer, and I thought that was as different as it gets. Dare I ask what you wore?

I can well imagine your hubby's remark wouldn't help the situation either. I can't wait to hear your daughter's reaction to that!

As the mother of the bride, I had to wear black, a one-piece long dressy affair that I fortunately already had in my wardrobe. There was no way I could change into a costume, but by the time we got to the reception, I just wanted to go home!

First an apology for not reading your novel earlier. I didn't know you were writing one. It seemed that when I popped up a post it was a poem. I'll try and go back to catch up.
The characters sound interesting and the interaction is your usual intricate, multiple-character interaction. I'm so used to reading your plays. This is quite a change.

Not a novel, but a bio. But I may turn it into a novel and change names of course to protect the innocent. I miss writing plays and am quite disturbed at the caliber of some in the top ten. I critiqued Nan B. and boy, did she take offense. Staying away from Chasenov for obvious reasons. A dialogue between planets? Really.

Your's were the only plays that I enjoyed. I don't get Chasenov either. Havent' read Nan B.
I think the quality of the site has gone down in the past couple years. I keep hoping we will get some new(better) writers.
I only read a few people and don't feel like trying to post. Many of my fans are gone. I guess all things have to change. I'm hangin' in there, still hoping. :)e

You might try MaggieAdams. I'm convinced that most wins are based on popularity. I'd quit but it's the only thing to look forward to these days.

Thank you. I'll check her out this morning.
Please don't quit, Shari. I'll have fewer worthwhile writers to read. LOL
When I feel stronger, I may begin to post short stories. I can't do another book. So demanding... as you well know.
It sure is warming up. Summer's here, shutting me in for several months with the rain and humidity.
    Take care. :) e

Interesting wedding! But whatever they want is fine. Tradition is unpopular these days. I'm surprised they even got married, since marriage seems to be outdated too!

Back in 1999, this departure from the traditional was still new. I loved it and have to give Jeff kudos for planning the sound track. That's next.

Wow! You've got your hands full with that one. Personally, I'm glad her dad spoke up. I'd have given him a pat on the back for it had I been there.

The wedding sounds more like a costume party. Black is not a favorite color of mine.

This was a well written, sassy little chapter, going both ways. My hat is off to you for being able to put up with it as you did. It was very interesting and held my attention just fine. It was a great chapter, my friend. I can't wait to find out what happens. Best wishes for you and yours.

Always with respect,

Chapter 26 of the book When Blood Collides A Strange Wedding "The Big Event" This is good stuff you have penned here, and I'm sure many other people can very well relate to it. One has to be quite strong to withstand this mighty onslaught. I guess you are too. Well done.
