Aww, Patsy sounds like a couple of dear souls I worked with at Income Tax.

I think I'm a little more different from Patsy than I first thought, but I do like her to bits. :-)

This was a lovely chapter. I wish I could give you a 10. You made dear Patsy come to life. If this ever turns into a movie, I get to play her! :-) I'd do her proud!

I'm sure you would, Sue. She's a very likeable character, just like you! Alexis xxx

Great chapter Alexis! I feel sorry for Patsy. You did a great job w/her character. I can see her in my head as I read your chapter. So she talks to herself. At first I thought she was with someone. HA! Poor girl! :)
That was nice of Laura to help her out. The story is getting more & more interesting, especially with this new character. Awesome job! Can't wait to read more!

I thought we needed some new faces to make the book work. The three women now have some new characters to 'brighten' their days, although they are still the core characters. It's great fun being able to use some of the very colourful characters I met when I ran a hotel, and blend them all together. I'm glad to say the Polish chef I had spoke very good English, but his pronunciation of certain words always made me crack up! Two more chapters now posted, so I can have a break for a few days. I was almost going to skip reading this since there's other chapters ahead of this I haven't read. Glad I didn't. It's one of my favorite. The chapter has a uniqueness to it. Love the character 'Patsy.' She's original. Reminds me when I got my first computer back in the 90's, and first had a problem, called for tech-help, and the guy said your 'PC' this and that, and I said what's a PC? After that I felt really stupid. Also like the explanation you give of Patsy's backwardness when it comes to Wi-Fi. After reading that, I realize she's quite real, and not some kind of nut. A chapter that will add more to come I'm sure. Awesome! Les

No, you're up to date, Les, well at least you were when you reviewed this one yesterday morning! I posted two in the afternoon (the second one is very short) to bring readers up to speed on Igor and Patsy. Thank you for your great review and very complimentary six. Both are truly appreciated. It's pretty hard to imagine a 41 year old who's so old fashioned. But, as you point out, she'd been living in "solitary confinement." By any chance, is Patsy patterned after a real-life person? I enjoyed this chapter a great deal. Perfect combination of prose and dialog.

I've met a few women like Patsy. They have mostly been born to older parents who they end up caring for and have no life of their own. Sad, but true. Patsy is a combination of a few of them who stayed at the hotel my husband and I ran. It's given me so much material for the book because you meet so many very 'different' people. I'm so glad you're enjoying it. Alexis x

G'day Alexis. This was wonderful once again mate, I got a real kick out of this chapter..because...I got my first computer in 2011 and had never even touched one in that time..the ABC radio bought me one because I always entered their poetry contests and had to handwrite them, then go to the library and them go to the post office and post them and wait a week for them to get their. I had no idea how to use one but mate, did it change my life when I learned. Crikey, I'm writing this to you LOL. Well done mate, cheers Fez

I think everyone just takes it for granted that everyone under a certain age (although I'm not sure what that age is!) has a computer. The benefits system has changed in the UK, and you have to log on to look for work every day or your benefits are stopped. If you don't have a computer or internet connection, you have to do down to your nearest job centre and log on there. No wonder the jobless numbers have gone down. They've probably all died of starvation! Alexis xxx

this was a fun chapter, sausage and penguins, i sort of feel sorry for the woman but i suspect that she will be making a dramatic change.

She certainly will now she's been introduced to the internet. After 25 years of solitary confinement with her elderly father, she's about to be liberated! Alexis x

Patsy is definitely a winner. I loved the idea that Laura teaches her about the internet. There's probably no end of other things she could teach her about.

'One of the things she'd looked forward to when she booked her holiday at the Bedford, was having a full English breakfast every day. Because she hated cooking, she hadn't had a decent sausage in months.' (This would be much better written as direct speech -- especially Patsy-speech. Every time you write something that Patsy says, it is an opportunity to produce some bizarre phrases and ideas).

'something she'd told Laura the day before, meant he'd retired before she left boarding school' (The comma isn't needed).

' 'No, Patsy, they don't...' (I strongly suspect this isn't true, although I doubt if there's much evidence one way or the other. Obviously, Patsy is a rather exreme example).

I couldn't agree more, in fact as another reviewer said, some of the conversations she has with herself are much more stimulating than the ones she has with other people! Yes, Patsy is an extreme case. When I ran a 25 bedroom hotel, we had a couple of guests who used to have very animated conversations with themselves when they thought there was nobody about. I would be sitting at reception listening to every word! Alexis x

Tell Patsy that I talk to myself and it is some of the most stimulating conversations I ever have. LOL. Great chapter. I still love Patsy. SHe is a hoot. Laura is a saint by helping her. Well done. Gretchen

Me too! I think that's why it's so easy to get inside Patsy's head, apart from the fact we had a few 'talkers' when we ran our hotel. Because we had a coach party every week when my husband and ran a 25 bedroom hotel, we met some very interesting characters! Alexis x

Oh, my! Laura may be sending Patsy over the edge. Good explanation of why Patsy is so far behind in knowledge of the modern world. Good character. :)

Everyone seems to love Patsy. I think there's a little bit of her in many of us. Laura will take her under her wing. Alexis x

This Patsy is an interesting one. I can't imagine lugging around a whole computer system instead of a laptop, but I know people can get set in their ways and some don't want to change. It will be interesting to see what other things Laura learns about Patsy and her life.

This did happen once at the hotel my husband and I ran. We couldn't believe it when one of the chambermaids told us a guest had brought his computer and monitor. Of course that was about twelve years ago before the Wi-Fi and laptop revolution, but Patsy's been in a time warp, so I thought it was a perfect story for her! Alexis x
