You wrote a poem that followed the prompt. The thing about real life, is that it's not necessarily easy. Everyone thinks they have an answer, and in reality, they don't. Many are just hypocrites. I have a simple rule: I don't make rules for other people and I don't let other people make rules for me. I think this a good piece and well worth reading. Best wishes.

Oh, how heartbreaking.
You always tell it so well, Brett.
I always know I am in for an emotional ride when I click over to your poems.
I think you knocked it out of the park.
You definitely do what you do well.

Great flow and rhyme throughout this poem. There's always a heart-breaker lurking around somewhere. Tells the story of someone's heart breaking and being played the fool. Always a great song and/or movie.

Good job on the rhyme and flow of lines. The story is one that happens a great deal of time in reality.

I got a bit confused with the [her] [you] in a couple of places.

I can hear her heart is breaking as you lead me to the door. [delete the word is]

Overall a good entry into the contest. Good job and good luck.

A really nice entry in this contest Brett, the meter is near immaculate, the descriptive imagery is really good, a very sad theme weaving it's "merry" way though the poem. It's a most accomplished rendering of a rhythmic rhyming poem, expresses itself well, good, solid entry in this contest, good couplet aabb rhyming, well done, blessings, Roy.

One must have very little self esteem if they let another fill their heart with pain. Self respect leads one to self love. This is very well written. Good imagery.

Excellent contest entry, Brett. Another country and western theme, and another very well written one too, Your rhyming is always superb, I like that in poetry and lyrics. Sad more for the lady than for the man that messed her about. Loved it! Good luck in the contest! xsx Sandra

This is an excellent poem with the rhyming all in good stead, The flow was also great but can be improved with meter management. Well done indeed and good luck in the contest.

As a poem I would agree with you, however, these are Country music lyrics so it is okay that way as well. Thanks for your comments and support.

A poignant break up poem feels like a country song. I can hear it in my ears. The poem possesses a great musicality. It rhymes and lines are smooth and its story is easy to follow. Poem shows raw emotions. Thank you for sharing.

sounds like this can be a true story, hearts break more than they heal, but it is interesting, people text today, i wonder if love letters will be a thing of the past, like rotary phones.
