This is ....I don't know the word for it. Besides grammar errors the content of this writing is 10 plus. This is a huge subject that has been under the radar. A lot of people who are NOT in abusive relationships have no idea how impossible it seems to leave. There are different forms of abuse to...like financial abuse. Withholding funds so the victim has no choice but to rely on you. Excellent writing and a much needed story.

You make a good point about women in abusive relationships often being captives at risk for great physical harm if they try to leave. Thank goodness Jan's case was appealed, and the judge reduced the long sentence so she could be reunited with her children. Best wishes in the contest with your compelling story- Joan

What a powerful story. I'm so glad you posted it. There are so many women in similar situations. I hope someone will see your story, take heart, and perhaps have the courage to leave her situation before it gets to the point that poor Jan's was. Bless you for being such a good friend to her, especially at such a desperate time in her life.

Women killing their abuser happens, some times very deservedly so. Story had good action until the end then just dropped off sharply. Next to last line should have the word "no" instead of the word "not". Write on.

Sure, this may be just a fictional account highlighting one woman's struggle, however, you can watch your local nightly news and see stories just like this -- or far worse -- nearly every day.

You made an original and excellent story about this abusive situation. The husband surely is antisocial, previously psychopath. But when his wife ills him in despair, she goes to jail. Fortunately things have changed. Best wishes for the contest.

This is a sad story, but a true one for so many woman. My first boyfriend used to abuse me, but I always thought I could 'change him.' I got out just in time, but some women are not so lucky. Good luck in the contest and thank you for sharing.

This is quite a story and many women do stay in relationships where the spouse is brutal to them. My own mother stayed with my dad for 35 years, and the last straw came when he almost beat my youngest brother to death, Then she divorced him. Patricia
