I bought some strawberries the other day and thought of the summer and Wimbledon lol. It is funny how food can make you remember things. Great poem. Good luck in the contest and thank you for sharing.

Lovely comparison between cherries and ruby gemstones. Very nice thinking. Very easy to comprehend writing with a picture that makes you want to go and buy cherries!
Kind regards
Sarah

basket of rubies
first cherries of the season
delicious gemstones
Oh, aren't they just! I love cherries, but they're
so expensive. If I have some in the house I have to
eat the lot - just can't resist.
delicious little poem, my friend. Good luck with the contest.

Yes, they are expensive. I paid $8.00 for a basket of cherries from the first and only vendor at the market. The prices will come down to $5.00 when other vendors bring their crops to the market. Thank you for your delicious review of a delicious poem and for your contest well wishes.

What a great post and putting it together like that seems flawless. Cherry season is my downfall. I am an undeniable pig with them. So happy that you have had so many views!!!!

This is a beautiful poem that the author has created with this piece of work. I have never herd of cherries being compared with gemstones before. Maybe they have, but I am new to this. I love this poem. well done indeed.

Thank you, Tomes Johnston, for your kind review. My first sight of the cherries at the farmer's market on Saturday inspired my poem. The picture came last. Thank you for your review.

I love this poem, not just because I love cherries so much but it has a certain special charm about it. I was trying to grope through them like a fad, and I don't know it rings in the double use of 'rubies' and 'gemstones'. I ask myself, 'aren't they the same?' Not sure whether it doubles the effect or diminishes it. But for me, I could sense something special here. Good Luck.

Thank you, ravim, for your kind review and comments. Many reviewers enjoyed how the third line (gemstones) enhanced the first line (rubies) because they compare cherries to precious gems. I am glad you sensed how special these berries are. Thanks for your review.

A fine recognition of a splendid fruit. Cherries here come into season just before Christmas and we have one or two particularly fine cherry orchards nearby. I know where you are coming from with this one!

Yes, don't cherries excite you? And at Christmas, too. What a gift. Thanks for your review.

I wanted to say 'gemstones delicious', not sure why. This is a clever poem, given the self imposed restrictions, and captures your affection for these tasty morsels. I prefer raspberries myself. The art work sets it off nicely.

Yes, Pancho Kid, raspberries are cool, too. I go bonkers whenever the yellow raspberries come to the market because they are rarer and sweeter than the red. Thanks for your review.

A wonderful 5-7-5 and so beautifully presented. It is too early here, but some of the flowers are blooming. Thanks for sharing this delightful poem, my friend~Debbie

Hi SisCat
A delightful poem to come across as my first read of the day. We've had two days of heavy rain and squalling winds that just blew off the top of my pergola. Your fine "basket of rubies" warmed me up and your second line brought back many memories of coming home from visiting my grandma way in the outback and buying a case of cherries fresh picked right from the growers. I love the black cherries best, though I love them all. :)) Your selected image is enticing and a perfect complement to your poem.
I love the "rubies/gemstones" metaphors ... this is one delicious poem. I wish you the best in the contest. I think the judges will appreciate your use of strong words with no unnecessary word clutter... as it does for me. Also the clever metaphors and the wry little 'play' with the word "gemstones" ... love the fruit, watch out for the hard pips. :) Ouch!
I enjoyed the cadence of these sweet and simple lines, all that 's' consonance made for a juicier read.
Excellent work .. I enjoyed this and could feel your jubilation as you created your poem at the sight of this lovely farmer's market treat. I'm not sure if I could wait until I was home to eat them ... I admire your self control. lol Hugs - Lovi xoxoxo

Lovinia, I am still flabbergasted that I created this poem in my mind at my first sight of cherries at last Saturday farmer's market. I tasted the words in my mouth before I tasted the cherries. A poem had never seized possession of me like this before. The sight of those cherries filled me with joy I captured in juicy words. Thank you for your fine, six star review.

Hi Sis Cat
That's exactly why you received my six. You conveyed to the reader the taste of those cherries and your market experience absolutely! I could taste that delicious juicy moment. :) I hope you do well in the contest. Fingers crossed. Hugs - Lovi xoxo
