Ingrid, I read this yesterday and realized it was packed with gems. In your witty way you bring to light the need to make sure in all reviews we are giving the author his due credit and respecting his work by reading and understanding it thoroughly. Also, reviews should be upbuilding and not designed to rip the person's spirit to shreds. Lather before you shave, my dear sweet Emma's words of wisdom. Kindness, tact and deliver go a long way in this community of writers. A reader/reviewer must understand there are seasoned writers and their are wannabe writers and everything in between. We all join Fanstory with a background which includes dreams and vulnerabilities. Kindness and humility go along way in helping one to bloom and developing repsectful and decent relationships through our written words. Thank you for sharing friend.. Jimi

This was inspired by an elderly ,man here on site who got an ugly review and he was deeply hurt. Since his wife passed, this has become his social media. I thought a fictitious letter might be a sifter reminder than a lecture. Thanks.

I hope you had a good Easter. I liked this because it was a fun read and I can assure you you are an amazing writer and we all get the one review. I laughed when I read about your man and hand holding and him letting your hand down on his lap and your shaking. Funny how certain things happen and sometimes seem to look. Great job.

This made me realize how lucky I am to spend this holiday with my family. There won't be a ham or big easter baskets but I will have them. I got teary eyed when you mentioned the call from kids maybe after the holidays. Too sad. Great letter. Happy Easter. And don't let the horn old goat hold your hand. Lol. Gretchen

You do know this was fiction and meant only to remind a few to be kind? Thanks

You only get 5 stars because you had me worried sick until I realized that you mentioned poetry WAY too many times for this to be really you. You scared the crap out of me. This being said, I am thankful there are people who work and thrive in an old folks home. I could never do this. The first time I lost one would destroy me.

This is a good write. You are awesome to think of others. And have a groovy bunny day tomorrow.

An older gent here got panned and it made him heartsick. I just slipped into the role. Thanks. HeY! I just got disqualified from my story, 'Good on you, Canada' They told me it wasn't fiction and said it wasn't a story because I didn't have a main character HAHAHA.
reply by Lylise on 04-Apr-2015
WTF!!!!! I caved and made the changes to my stupid poem so I could partipate. Today I was at the beach. Out in the water walking around looking for sand dollars. Some woman on the beach starts screaming at me to move. There was a wedding on the beach I never saw and I was in the center of everybody's camera lens. LMAO!! I am sick of insignificant people telling me what to do!!!!

I'm working through my reviews. I'll find this.

You are such a trouble maker.

READ it for yourself. U gave a literature lesson in response and asked for a detail reply.

    Check this out!

We are writing to inform you that after careful consideration that "Good on you, Canada" has been disqualified from the contest 100 Word Dash.

The 100 Word Dash Flash Fiction contest accepts stories about a main character who has a problem (conflict.) Each story must describe the setting where the story takes place and provide an ending (resolution) showing how the main character attempted to resolve the conflict, and whether or not the attempt was successful.

Unfortunately, GOOD ON YOU, CANADA is not a fictional story.

We are sorry, but we must disqualify the entry. As stated in the contest announcement, entry fees are used to form the contest pool and cannot be refunded.

Did they send you a warning notice? Or just can you in the booth?
reply by the author on 04-Apr-2015
    in the booth
reply by Lylise on 04-Apr-2015
I took about a year off and returned only recently. This place has changed. I at least got a warning notice. Then I did get a message that they had disqualified me. I was told the same thing you told me. That you could not be disqualified until it got to the booth. I am very uncomfortable here. Don't understand why they didn't send a warning message like I got. Who are these people and why am I being charged extra money so they can castrate me?

The committees...all of them...are made up of invited members...trust me I know. I piss a fair number off and I'm sure they look very carefully at me.

The committee auditing is the members idea. FS just gets an auto 10% fiction money to spread around to the committee and make them feel superior. Alas, I write for the discipline here==that's it!

    Copy that. You are right.

Daisies, daffodils...it really doesn't matter if it's come to the point where you're pushing them up, LOL. And yes, the picture artwork is lovely.

As for Easter, well, it hasn't been the same for any of us since my mother-in-law passed away in August of 2012. Her death seemed to rip the very heart and soul out of what was once such a loving and caring family. Now, everyone pretty much goes about doing their "own thing". As for me, I'll be in Sunday service as always. For my soon-to-be ex wife and kids, who can say for sure?

Have a Happy Easter Millie...Ingrid...whoever the heck you are, LOL. :) ~Dean

My dear Dean, I'm so sorry your marriage has ended and I sincerely hope your kids are of an age that they can come and go to see you whenever they want. A church service is a small price to endure to keep the family unit joined at some level.

Millie is a fictitious role I slipped into after an elderly member told me about the panning he got from another recognized writer. Just wanted to remind people there were people behind the screen. Total fiction. Some days I feel 80, but I've still got a ways to go--if I make it. Happy Easter, ingrid

Happy Easter to you too, Ingrid. You're very welcome.

You had my mind in a mess for a few seconds there. Mildred? I thought she was Ingrid! Then with some relief I saw it was fiction. LOL It's a wonderful letter and could have been written by many of us. Well done Ingrid. Love it! Nancy

The photo of the flower is excellent and complements your story perfectly. This is a perfect way to wish everybody a Happy Easter. I might follow your example. Your writing has no mistakes and your Haiku fitting.

Except by very definition, the poem is absolutely in no way a haiku. Just a reminder letter to be kind to members, especially older ones who may be completely alone. Thanks.

] didn't know you had Parkinson's and I take it are in some sort of care facility, and realize how often you must feel, much like I do, the need to for a day or two just be free and able to love as we used to. Take care, my friend~Deppie

Ha, SE, I have to tell you your haiku satori doesn't have an a-ha, (chuckle, I'm kidding of course) but you know what? This whole fiction letter is a satori moment for me. I mean what an eye-opener. From reading some of the reviews I can see satire is not widely understood and neither it appears are the different literary genres.

LOL wrinkles and sex cancel each other out. And also since when were you not much of a writer. This entire letter is filled with terrific irony, humour and exaggeration and I think it's an excellent way to remind reviewers to be kind and not to jump the gun on docking stars because they don't understand a piece or they would've written it differently.

You've made some terrific and pointed observations, Millie, and I'm still laughing about the allusion to clich©s and form. Very, very well done. You've also brought home a good message about lonely and isolated seniors who are members of the FanStory family so let's be aware of that and kind in our reviews.

One more thing, that daffodil picture is amazing. I love it! Even though it should be daisies. *wink* Getting idioms a little wrong is always a terrific laugh from me because I know you know the "right" way.

I have an old buddy on here and this is a very big social outlet for him, but recently a very good writer panned him and really hurt him deeply. I just slipped into character. Don't think we'll be hearing from Millie again. Hugs, INGRID

Spiritual Echo: I had to see if this was a contest or just a nice letter. Well, anyway, you have humor and a great story letter. I like the hand holding and the kids smile. Dinner sounds good for ham lovers. Have a blessed Resurrection Sunday weekend. You are welcome at my camp grounds anytime. I'm into home cooking. We had meatballs with gravy over noodles with broccoli and a salad for dinner. Try it, tasty. Ok, have fun with your family and friends. flylikeaneagle
