The sad thing is, alcohol, drugs, whatever other destructive tendencies unit some people, and they feel that the only way to stay together is to continue the risky behavior, when, infact, it divides them.
Good job of writing a striking poem that brings up a social issue.

You said it Linda.. full throttle to nowhere.. I'm thinking you were extremely nice in putting your feelings on this into words, I am willing to admit other family members may not be so nice! Great poem, glad I stopped to read..

Dawny53: my eldest daughter and her husband have reunited after a two year split but the glue that binds them seems to have become drinking alcohol together. How sad. Thank you for reading and commenting. livelylinda

Love the poem and especially the title. Glad it was alcohol that you were referring to since I just reviewed the penis riddle before yours. Solid emotional piece about how drinking together can make us temporarily forget about our problems by creating new one unbeknownst to us.

Doc Holiday: yeah, I reviewed that nasty penis riddle also. He didn't get a very good review from me. Thank you for reading this poem and commenting. livelylinda

I like the artwork you choose for your poem.
It is a perfect match.
You had my attention from the start and love the message within it.

I wonder having witnessed these things Linda, are you going to dob? I think they deserve to have someone tell. Is this about infidelity and driving while drunk!? I love this short but articulate observational poem, lots of police out this Easter, well done, my friend, good to read your artistic writing, happy Easter, Linda, to you and yours, from me and mine, blessings, Roy.

Roy: this poem is about my eldest daughter and husband of 21 years. A few years back, they separated for two years. They have reunited but have begun consuming alcohol, way too much alcohol, like it is the glue which keeps them together. There is rumor that they are moving south about 2 hours, away from both families to avoid hearing criticism about their drinking. Thanks for reading and commenting. Linda

In my opinion, a well constructed and lyrical accounting of a tragedy in liquid form - articulate and plaintive in morose acceptance of an unhappy plight - fluid in its agony...

Hi there! This is about my eldest daughter and her husband of 21 years. They separated for two years and are now back together, acting like newlyweds. Unfortunately, the glue which binds them has become excessive alcohol consumption. There is rumor that they are moving a couple hours south of both families to avoid detection but we all already have seen what is happening. It is very sad. Thank you for reading. God bless you and Happy Easter! Linda

Neatly sculptured; nicely stated. Our poet recreates the tragic relationship with detachment. Every verse breathes pathos as the couple stay together for protection in a hostile world? I sometimes think that the pub or tavern is the cultural center in any modern society. I would call this piece, a modern poem.

Good write on the slippery slope. Excellent in description giving good description. The art work shows the lonely place an addiction can take you. Excellent. Stephybs

As a recovering alcoholic of 27 years now, I can relate to this fine piece of poetry. It is never hidden for very long. I moved away for two years and nearly drank myself to death. They noticed.

Very well written and expressed. Good job, poet.

TOMORAL: This is written about my eldest daughter. She and her husband of 18 years, separated for two years. She began drinking quite a bit during their separation. Now they are back together and act like newlyweds. However, daily consumption of alcohol by the both of them seems to be the glue which is keeping them together. There is rumor that they are moving a couple hours away from both families so that they are not found out. However, we all already know. They are in their mid-40's and I can see their health deteriorating from all this alcohol. I am afraid for them. Thank you for reading and sharing your thoughts with me. And, congratulations on your recovery! I admire your strength. livelylinda

Depending on alcohol to keep a relationship intact rally works for long. Your work is insightful and well written. Hopefully your family members will wake up and find a way to seek help.
