Lovely photo that complements your poem very well. It is indeed a well written Limerick. I liked the reference to the inventor. I don't know if it is just satire, look at Ferguson and other cities. Best wishes for the prompt.

Very impressive, Michael. Here you delve in some deep waters, I always imagined limericks more lighthearted. But what you do is incredible. In five lines you spell volumes, and touch on multiple issues that make American history.

You have one error here which prevented me from giving it a six. I fear, the committee will pick it up too, I would hate for this little gem to be disqualified. The rhyme scheme for a limerick is supposed to be a-a-b-b-a. This means, in your case that "uttered" should rhyme with "coloreds" and "dullards" - and it doesnt. You have a rhyme scheme a-a-b-b-c. I usually try to pick very common syllables for those three lines, as they must rhyme. In your case it's hard, as you picked hard to rhyme syllables.

The poem is a prize, but this issue has to be addressed, I believe.

Hi. Thanks for the great review! Yes, that's what has kept me from entering for two days. :)) It reads out loud perfectly and does have a strong "urd" rhyme in all three words. I thought about the argument over words ending in "S", but it weakens the piece terribly to change the wording to make it read colored and dullard. "Utters" doesn't read as well as "uttered" when read out loud and its weaker as well. The committee is usually pretty flexible on near and slant rhymes. I think I'll risk it. I like the poem a lot. I've been disqualified so many times I've lost count. Haha!! So, I'll take the good work over the DQ I guess. I'm pleased you liked it. I was going to write something funny, but this is something as a musician that's been bothering me for years. I just hate that word even though I know nothing harmful is meant by it. What a great idea for a contest. So much more room to say something than a 5-7-5. Well, here it is midnight. I finally have a little time if I can keep my eyes open. I'll look for your entry. :)) mikey

I know what you mean. The poem is perfect on its face, and any jingling of rhymes would ruin the subject matter. Well, rhyming in all 3 is a bit of a stretch, but you made a good argument in that all of them have "urd" rhyme.
This is the most serious limerick I've ever read, and the most powerful content. If you are Irish, half Irish or quarter Irish, happy St. Patrick's Day! (smile).

I don't think the site ever had a political limerick before, this is working out very well.

Michael Patrick O'Cahill! They dropped the "O" somewhere along the line. A LOT Irish. Thank you so much!
It's a perfect form for political comments.

Oh! Oh! No he didn't use the N word; you are so in trouble. LOL! What am I going to do with you. LOL! Thanks for introducing the Limerick from Ireland. Such a big subject for a 'wee' poem.
