How clever to insert the artwork in the middle of your poem and adding the pledge in your notes! I liked your use of tercets for your warning. You're right about pride and complacency being dangerous. Here's to your wake-up call! -Joan

Wow, I like it. I can't say I am new to poetry but I am not very familiar either. Sometimes I have downright difficulty to understand what is being said. I am being honest about it. I liked yours though, and I think I understand it. Well done. Ulla

I don't quite get you over all meaning in this piece of poetry. But poetically it is well written and voiced and flows along its thoughts very freely. I liked the poetic feel to this verse. Even if I didn't quite comprehend it totality of meaning... John

While I may not fully understand what you are saying, this is a wonderful piece. It has a great flow and rhythm that had me imagining that I am listening to you reading this piece at a café poetry reading, and upon your ending, you received many finger snaps in applause.

Hi Michael,
How are you? First of all thank you for allowing me to read your work.

It is very evident this work has been inspired by the recent geo political events felt across the globe. It is disheartening, as anyone who participates in our heated discussions on the forum will attest to.

Never before in history has so many catastrophic events come together to make the "writing on the wall" glow with fire. I am reminded of Belshazzer and his might fortress. He ignored the warnings right before his eyes; but more than that, his folley in desecrating God's vessels sealed his fate.

Just as the mighty Roman Empire failed due to the socio- political structure and its inattention to the subtle but potent changes .. this mighty Empire met its fate. We might go further and speak of all the great empires who have fallen due to the same issues. From Babylon to Medo-Persian-to Egyptian- Greek- Roman, to more recent Anglo-Saxon beginning with WW1. And here we sit today where mankind's love of lawlessness and the abdication of character, conscience and courage by some of the world's renown leaders have created a volitile soup of annihilation.
A place where greed and apathy, political correctness, has blinded our responsibilty toward the security of our future. And once again history dictates and repeats itself but on a more far reaching level. The United States of America as well as Europe will meet its fate just as one of the greatest empires ever recorded in ancient history.

Your poem integrates potent hints of Biblical references to ignite our senses and employs the words of a song written so long ago as a stark metaphor of what is to transpire. The Watchtower.. its connotations are far reaching and we know from Biblical history the use of Watchtower built by magnificent empires. Their purpose to see threats from afar and to insure the safe keeping of the empires treasures.

I like the way you employ poetic devices such as understatement and overstatement and verbal irony in this work. As we know overstatement is usually employed by over exaggeration. In poetry it is a dynamic tool because if employed perfectly it services the truth. You have done this well.

I shall say no more. An exceptional work.

Your friend.. jlsavell.. Jimi

Hello Jimi...yes you are my friend...-smile- thank you... I dont ...see that , think that way...that "we" America will meet terrible fate repeated by history's mistakes....but a gradual realization, exploding into an outrage of one...controled and precise, changing tomorrows course. Yes maam, "we" are doing things and allowing things to be done ....that are very detrimental to Her health...and I would we wake up. love Michael
