Karen insisted on supplying the turkey and all the trimmings. Satisfied she could do no more, Jenny settled in to taking her calls

I think 'Jenny' should be Laura. I'm guessing Jenny will be with George at Christmas.

Sorry, my reviews may be a bit flat today. This cough/cold/headache is getting the best of me. :-(

This is exactly why I didn't want to publish the book as a paperback before you had a chance to review it, Sue. Your eye for detail is exemplary, and I know you won't bullshit me when something isn't right! Well caught, my friend. Thank you! Alexis xxx

I enjoyed the kids' reactions to Karen's weight loss. I also liked that they made plans to bring their families together for christmas. This chapter makes me want some turkey and stuffing! ;)

I'm usually stressed when I get behind on reviewing, but this time I'm glad that I don't have to wait for the next chapter.

I actually quite like it when I get behind for that reason. It feels more like a book that you can't put down! Alexis x

Hi there L
She had indeed cooked far too much food the year before, because she needed something to take her mind off the awful reality that his chair at the top of the table would be empty. Not that she'd let on. It had been one of the most heart-breaking meals she'd ever prepared.
(heartbreaking)
I like this reference and her reply. Her weight loss was unnoticed by her son. She has to feel OK by that I'd think. I liked this one

G'day Alexis. Another great chapter that made me hungry with all that talk of food. I loved the kids reactions. Well done mate, a couple of SPAGS....

" Tony was just (as) shell-shocked as his sister when he walked in"

"Karen nearly pulled Michelle up for pretending she'd known about her weight loss all along, but decided to keep shtum.(????)"

If that makes you hungry, today's must have you drooling! Yes, a bit like you, but to a much lesser degree, there is lots of this book based on fact, especially with regard to Laura - surprise, surprise! I've now put an explanation for 'schtum, although you alerted me to the fact I'd spelt it wrong. It means 'keep quiet about something. Thank you, mate! Alexis x

'I'm kidding, you moron! Mum's managed to lose over twenty pounds without you even noticing. Some son you are!'-HEE HEE Love this!

She had indeed cooked far too much food the year before, because she needed something to take her mind off the awful reality that his chair at the top of the table would be empty-I do this too! How interesting, I'm not alone.

a traditional Christmas pudding and brandy butter.-YUM! This sounds amazing!! :-D

YAY! This chapter tugged at my heart strings missing the husband/dad, but also uplifting with all the good things happening. I truly enjoyed this!

Great work.:-)

Me too, after Gerry, my husband, died. It's the most horrible feeling in the world having an empty chair on such an important day. We all need to be loved! Alexis x

Bully for Karen. I wish I could do that. I could picture the whole scene, the family's reactions and how great she looked in her outfits. WELL DONE! :)

This is exactly what I would like to do if I lost a substantial amount of weight. It reminds me of a film called 'The She Devil' or similar, where an abandoned wife transforms herself after she's been dumped, and makes her ex husband's life hell. Roll on Christmas day! Alexis x

Congratulations to Karen for getting her weight down. Weight loss, for older women, is not an easy goal to achieve.

Editors hate the word 'just', because it adds nothing to the story. It is best eliminated:

nearly dropped the glass of Coke she'd just poured as

massive difference, instead of just a gradual reduction over the weeks.

Everything is going so well. Good scene with the realistic reaction of Karen's children. Nice touch bringing in a painful recollection to change the pace. Also the reminder the Michael might overhear Laura on the phone to the punters. An interesting name for the clientele.

That's what they're called here. What are customers for sex called in the States called? Don't worry about Karen. Christmas day will bring sweet revenge! Alexis x

I love it when that happens, the thrill of someone noticing the weight loss. I am on a diet, so I think I might try the same thing once it begins to show. It's hard work though. Things are going so well for Karen, this chat line has transformed her life. Another excellent chapter, Alexis.
I'm a bit late today reviewing, I had a friends funeral to go to. So coming back to your book, has lightened my day considerably. :) xsx Sandra.

I'm so glad this cheered you up a little. As you get older, funerals become more frequent, and more depressing because they remind us of our own mortality. That's why I want these women to be an inspiration. Life is too short! Alexis x
