Oh I can relate, motherhood with all it accolades, does have a dark side. One daughter still refuses to speak to me and the other communicates but never tells me anything about what she and my grand kids are doing. Just a simple hi, how are you and talk to you again soon. I do hope you and your daughter resolve you differences and are able to return to your closes relationship.

Yep, that's about the way things are not between Nichole and me. A lot more story there. It's hard to keep a close relationship three thousand miles apart and a visit every three years.

"How can you say such a thing?" I interrupted, my voice rising. --->I think the word "say" pulled a disappearing act on you here, Shari...

While I can certainly understand Jeff's fascination with his hobby, it almost sounds as if it dictated who he was as a person. Good God, if I allowed my writing to influence who I was, so many people would be in serious trouble, heh-heh.

Nichole should have been grateful to you and Frank for even allowing her and Jeff to borrow one of your cars instead of having to acquire a rental. Maybe a little pre-road trip inspection could have been done by Jeff to ward off any possible complications that arose. Fill the radiator, check the oil, tire pressures...you know, that sort of thing. It really sounds to me like she was unhappy and frustrated. Perhaps she felt she already had so much time and effort invested in him that it was too late to simply call it quits. But it's been my experience that it is never too late to do what's best for you in the long run.

Another great chapter, Shari. I found just one very minor error.

Keep them coming! ~Dean

I'll check the sentence again. Umm, interesting thought about his hobby dictating his personality.
I like your comment about time and effort invested. Very insightful. I hadn't thought about that.

    Sure thing, Shari. :)

Exactly the same thing happened to me when I gave my daughter a car to use for a year, having paid for the insurance and maintenance for a year, the car only cost me about £1500 in total, but she sold it for £100, claiming it was a pile of junk. A thank you would have been so much nicer!

Just a couple of glitches;

'I scanned the crowd departing from Nichole's flight.'
Should this be 'disembarking' or 'arriving' from Nichole's flight?

"How can you (say) such a thing?"

Children can be so thoughtless. I wonder if I was the same way. Can't remember that far back. LOL
You're right about disembarking. I knew departing wasn't quite right.

It doesn't take much to spoil a relationship - or to test it, at least. How difficult it can be when the boy you see does not match up to the image you have formed in your mind from a distance. You write well about that, bringing in a feeling of the tensions that can exist. A couple of spags here - fit/fitted and 'How can you (say)such a thing'. It sounds as if you have a pretty robust relationship with your daughter that can weather a couple of rocky patches.

I'm all for pre-arranged marriages, Tony. LOL
I have better taste in men. And you're right about getting through some bad times. More to come in later chapters.

No matter how old they get, daughters can still push the buttons that deflate the entire body balloon and send you plummeting to the floors below the earth's surface. And the very next second, they can be sweet as though nothing has transpired. So all you did was refuse to let them take the newer car? Pretty demanding of them, I would say.

That's how hubby and I felt. They could have rented a car, but that costs money! I have to watch myself all the time now, having pushed Nichole's buttons several times.

My daughter turns against me. When Blood Collides Long Distance Relationship, Part 2 Ah yes, I guess you did find out what children get up to sometimes. They blame their decent parents for things that go wrong. I personally blame all that on her boy friend. You'll find the problem lies with him. Well done.

My feelings, exactly, chase. More will be revealed about the relationship as the story unfolds. Suffice is to say my daughter would kill me if she knew what I was writing about.

I sympathise with you completely, when the apple of your eye brings somebody home that threatens to become a relative, and it's not quite expecting what they brought home! When your kind to them and lend them your precious car, and then turn around and behave like a spoilt brat! When it breaks down. I think your restraint is amazing. Well done, very absorbing, shared with great openness and aplomb, a very engaging tale, a well written story. I enjoyed. Blessings, Roy. Spag :- how can you (say) such a thing.

Thanks, Roy. I can't believe I left out that all important word, but it was an emotional write for me and I thank reviewers for giving me insight into the situation. And yes, my daughter did behave like a brat! But then, we all do at some time or other.

"How can you such a thing?" I interrupted, my voice rising. ... add the verb, "say".

Excellent vignette. he sounds like a winner. I am pleased my daughter didn't bring one of those home, but she did attracted a loser for a spouse. He is long gone now.

She is the first to admit that she was colossal pain in the ass until she passed thirty and even then had a ways to go. But I do love her now and totally enjoy her company.

Well written but very sad. Poor girl was becoming like Jeff, negative and dark. What did she ever seeeee in that ape anyway? His personality seems to match his appearance. Did he have a humongous dick or something? What could it be???? DId you ever find out?

Caught the typo. As for the attraction, I think it's a karmic debt. No kidding.

    Karma? On her? Or you?

According to Jeff's uncle who dabbles in that sort of thing, Jeff was in a mental institution and hung himself. Nichole was a nurse and the only one who understood him.
Maybe she could have saved him and didn't?
In this life, he loves booze, but doesn't indulge because she'd leave him. They've been married for sixteen years now. She supports him with a six figure salary as vp of a big corporation. He's lucky to pull in twenty grand a year through his voice-over jobs. On the bright side, he does all the cooking. :-)

Wow. Whatever works for them, I guess. Who knows what goes on in someone else's mind?

Guess whose coming to dinner? Your description of him is almost funny, although I'm sure it wasn't humorous at the time. Were piercings "in" at that time? You seem to have a word missing here " Whatever fond memories I have of that brief ( ) were overshadowed by what happened the day they left for Miami. My sixes are gone as I hope he will be in the next installment...JB

Piercings were in. Frank has one because he lost a bet to his son who also has one in the ear. Unfortunately, you'll hear about Jeff in a later installment, seven years later to be exact.
reply by Deniz22 on 18-Feb-2015
    Okay...sorry to hear that...
