great description of the new boyfriend - love the parent's critical eye LOL
more fun description of his creepy interests :-)
You depict effectively the daughter's meanspirited accusations to her mom - five years old is a piece of junk? My car is 12 years old. LOL :-) Brooke

Some people trade cars in every three years. I kept my Toyota Corolla for twelve, then sold it to a student for a pittance. He jazzed it up like a race car and demolished it a year later.
A better way to go than the junk yard. Hope I go out like a race car. :-)

My dad used to buy a new Buick every three years. I guess it was his way to show off that he was doing well - he was a pipefitter and those were the good old days of a construction boom.

Wow! What a weirdo. You'd think that they'd be appreciative, considering you were loaning them YOU car, not theirs. To bad they didn't "POOL THEIR MONEY" to rent a car. No offense, but your daughter sounds terrible.

I really enjoyed this chapter. it had a bit of spark to it. I love the dialog and the way the story is going. It's to bad that it's true. But then, that would probably be a bit boring. Thanks for sharing, my friend. Best wishes to you and yours.

Always with respect,

The six means so much when one is revealing such intimate events. Thanks for comment about spark and dialogue. And your right, my daughter changed for the worse after her move to CA.

Sounds like she became tense because of the stress of a relationship, in the pic she seems to be watching him, cant wait to see how this turned out,

Joann, you are so insightful. You hit the nail on the head. That's how I felt.

I feel your pain, this Jeff is scary. I hope your daughter made the decision to dump him. Cars break down, it is part of life and young people need to realize this. Again, excellent story and you held my interest.

Thanks, mermaids. You'll be hearing more of Jeff as I continue with my story about Mom moving in.

Children are going to do things that don't meet with their parents' approval, and Nicole seems to stand by Jeff. Interesting detail about the car and her reaction after the Plymouth you obligingly lend her breaks down. She sounds really angry and blames you and your husband for not letting them take the newer car. Then she complains about the plane trip. You must have thought it was Jeff causing her attitude problem. Very interesting insights. judi

I'd love to ask my daughter now her thoughts on the subject. But I don't want to bring back bad memories. You'll understand why as I continue the story about Mom.
reply by judiverse on 19-Feb-2015
That's understandable. She certainly dramatized the events surrounding the car trouble and the flight. Young people do that. judi

I know this all happened some time ago; but I still feel badly for you and Frank and for the way your daughter behaved when she visited with Jeff.

Funny how our kids, at any age, will take advantage of the security they find in their relationship with loving parents. It's as if they feel it's alright to pee on our shoes, they know we will love them even after the pee has dried up!

I think she was influenced by that guy's negative energy.

I'm so glad I wrote about this. Several reviews have opened my eyes. And you're right about taking advantage. Maybe I should look at this way--she felt safe in attacking me and it could have been a spillover from Jeff's stress.

Yikes! If your physical and behavioral descriptions fit Jeff, then I am on yours and Frank's side. What a loser. And probably did contribute to your daughter's negative behavior. I take it she didn't normally act this rude and spoiled when she didn't get her way. Can't wait to see how this one turns out. 8-)

Yes, this was new behavior more Nichole who's not aggressive. You'll hear about her and Jeff as I weave them now into the story of Mom and my sisters and aunt.

Intense to say the least. Sounds like both life in the California and the new beau did indeed have an influence on your daughter's change in nature. Circumstance do have their impact.

I think she was a bit demanding in insisting on the Olds, the new car. Her attitude afterwards was not justifiable. She came off sounding a bit like a spoiled brat (don't be offended, just the way the conversation came off in my ears as I read it)

I think you could reveal a little more about how you felt. Did you ever get some mom-daughter time? Were you able to talk to her? What were your real feelings about Jeff?

I'll have to catch the next episode to find out what else is up with your young-in. Hope she's not as "ugly"...

One nit for you to fix:
How can you such a thing?" >missing a word here

Found another one on my second read:
(Cell phones were still a few years away) >This is a complete sentence and should have a period before the ending parenthesis.

THanks for catching the spags and for your suggestions. I added a bit more at the end.

The bit more reveals more about how you felt. Good. It also leads the reader to think that more feelings, thoughts, impressions will be revealed in the next installment. Kind of creates an "Ooo, I got to find out about this." Good technique to keep interest. I do get the feeling you are being reserved about your thoughts and feelings. I know you were hurt by this change and likely other events coming. Maybe you are saving it for later chapters, maybe....

Jeff and Nichole will reappear periodically as events put them back in our life.

Wow, from what you say about your relationship, it sure seemed out of character to go after you like she did. Is there more to come about the two of them? One thing to fix ...
How can you (say?) such a thing?" I interrupted, my voice rising.
Smiles,
Karyn :-)

LOL - I have to laugh at Frank and your comments about his appearance.

Oh my goodness, maybe the dude was related to Dean, haha.

Did Nichole really come out and say "We want ...?" How rude. Good God, the more I'm reading about her reaction, the more pissed off I'm getting. My sons would never talk to me like that. Hm...the first time? Okay.

I thought about Dean as wrote this. To be honest I don't remember if said 'want' or simply asked. At any rate she resented that they had to use the older car. I was pretty pissed off too which overrides love in this occasion. Well, not love, but like, if you know what I mean.

You used the word 'want.' That's why it struck me as so rude. I hear Florida is going to get some nasty, cold weather.
