This is a perfect vision of our countryside in summer.
It exudes heat among the imagery of natural things existing in the extreme dryness of the environment.
I like your free verse style; economical with words, but chunky which allow an image to sit and be mused over, before moving on.
My favourite imagery was of the rosellas adding colour to the dry scene; an occurrence that happens many times even walking in the city.
A most enjoyable read.

This is a perfect vision of our countryside in summer.

Thanks, Mark. In fact I wrote most of this on East Terrace while waiting for my wife to come out from her specialist's appointment.

Another great poem from you. I truly look forward to your post and am inspired by them. I've been writing more short stories lately than poems but have many stashed for review. I thought this poem flowed smoothly and each verse touched on a different part of your South Austrialian Summer which was a great title and must be a truly beautiful place.

I want to repeat that small word (wow), because that is the feeling this poem evokes in me. The imagery is so real, I'm wishing I could have just a half-hour in the scene you describe, because I can feel the heat (and right now we are about to set a record for cold that hasn't been broken since 1979).
Tony, I see that lizard, I feel the 'pain' of that gum tree - all of it, every word is magical. (and as per usual, I am out of sixes...sigh...!!!)

Somebody said Albany Georgia and Albany Australia are on very nearly the same number degrees from the equator. The summers certainly sound alike, with interesting differences in flora and fauna. Excellent free verse.

The imagery was very demonstratively descriptive as was also perfectly expressive. I discovered that the sleepy lizard in the wide-eyed possum were well described in your poem.
