Congratulations on your win. This a lovely piece. I particularly liked your choice of descriptive words to paint the landscape. Does sound like heaven. In 100 words you managed to tell the highlights of Jimmy's story. Can't wait for the movie version.:) Hey, you never know. You are truly a gifted writer. :)

A powerful and awesome story Dean. I loved it... and wish now I had waited to review when my six-stars came back. There is not a word out of place, and every thought is necessary and well-phrased. I have only great admiration for anyone who can write like this. I'm glad you got that blue ribbon.

Well, you know people usually write sappy soldier stories that get all the military families. This was quite a shock. To put so much into so few words, and what you left out spoke volumes. This is Brilliant! I missed this contest because of work. I'm glad I did now. It saved me some money. Great Job.

Dean, I can see how and why you were the contest winner. I was busy at work this week and wasn't on FS all that much. Your first paragraph, so descriptive in defining the field of wildflowers. The second section brought my mind to an "oh, oh what the hell is going to happen to these little kids." Then you surprised me with what could be a teary-eyed ending.

Congrats, my friend. Well, well done. John

Where does the soul go after it is ripped out of the body? Many a writer has offered his own interpretation. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words, making for a very good read.

It is great job of packing children's innocence, nature and the horrifying war scene into just 100 words. You deserved the prize. Congratulations! What is Hoa Ky? I presume is the local version of OK.

Oh I am so happy Dean, you are capable of writing benign stories and what a breath of fresh air. You deserved to win this contest, I was right, you can do better in feel good prose and perhaps poetry of this genre too. I love the yellow blooms and the playing kids, it's a like a taste of heaven. Congratulations my friend, Jesus is smiling up there for sure.

A calling of duty had led Jimmy to parts unknown to conquer this war but unfortunately lost the battle and now joins his baby sister in heaven.
Good fluency and rhythm to your story.

"Fields of Forever" Just exactly how difficult is it to write a story of one hundred words? I think it take something to do that. You have done this rather well.
