As a child I grew up in the midst of a hardwood forest. Trees were my playmates. To this I can relate. Today my simple childhood would be considered one of poverty. Yet in my heart I know I was rich.

hi susan

oh yes
the trees hold and witness many secrets
I enjoyed your line of repetition "but funny yes"
that fitted in very well
your words and thoughts were clever
the execution of the voice was well done

thank you for sharing
enjoy the night

Trees, and in fact all plants listen. I talk to plants and they grow for me. :) I share this with the most famous of all people, Prince Charles. He talks to his plants and believes they hear us and respond. I would like to know what secrets they hold! :) Lovely poem, and a pleasure to read. xsx Sandra.

This reminded me a really silly posting I read on Facebook recently that said: "If a man speaks in the woods and there is no woman around to hear him is he still wrong?"

Indeed, if trees could speak...I wonder what they would have to say.

Thanks for sharing.
Blessings to you,
Marsha

Trees do listen. The problem is, as the tree in this poem points out we don't understand what they hear. I think that trees know far more that we give them credit for. An interesting poem, and a rare perspective of man's inter-relationship with trees.
I like your repeating line, 'but funny, yes' It let's us know that the tree understands irony. It seems to ground the poem - at least for me.
Rose.

And if it falls in the woods does it make a sound? Of course it does. Trees are the sentinels standing guard over the forests. They keep their secrets despite their whispering in the wind.

Wonderful poem, nassus. The allusion to the trees that track traumas in their rings is most effective in bringing forward the anguish of abuse. What better witness than a tree under which the tears were shed and sorrow shared.

Love it!

Wow! This is a brilliant piece, Nassus. What a unique idea for a poem

"but funny, yes,
men miss their ears
as trees reveals
a witness' secret"

Bravo! Great writing. Bob
