A cute poem, Jan, especially when it turns out to be a six-year-old doing the "inventing." I love kids' imaginations; the things they do and the things they say.

Alexis must be a very special and creative little girl. She will probably grow up to be a famous sculptor.. some kind of artist for sure! You are blessed to have her, I loved your poem, so surprised at the ending, I just love surprise endings like this one! You wrote it well, thanks for sharing!

I will bet that Alexis is one of those kids who, if a present comes in a big box, ignores the toy and plays in the box. I know I was. Keep encouraging her creativity. I like the tone of your poem. It could have been a humorous poem, but you presented it seriously mirroring her mind in invention mode. And respecting it. It is serious to her.

yes, ravenblack, that is usually how it goes - she will eventually get to the toy but the box has to be investigated first to see what it can be used for

This is such a sweet poem. I take it it's about a child of six. They are so imaginative at that age and the things they come up with are usually the best. This is a well written poem and thank you for sharing.

This is an interesting free verse based on the saying 'One man's trash is another man's treasure' - meaning that what some throw away another person would find a use for. In this case, however, you surprise us by saying the person in this poem is just a 6 year old child, and you tell us this at the end which makes us go back and re-read and reassess our thoughts about what the person was doing. Your last stanza is good - the explanation of what the resulting achievement is far exceeds the actual achievement, that only the youngster can see. A very enjoyable free verse. Warm regards Dorothy x

This sounds like an extremely intelligent and artistic child. She appears to have a gift for turning seemingly useless items into something great that no one else would have considered.

Hi Rdfrdmom2
The inventive imagination displayed by children is always amazing. Sounds like you have a budding artist on your hands.
Good poem, it captures that spirit of discovery and invention well.

Ahahah, I love this one. The ending blew me away-a child. How very creative she must be-I love watching children's creativity blossom. You have reminded me of why I chose to work with this population.
Thanks ever so much for sharing this wonderful piece,
karen

WOW! Jan, It would be great to see a piece of her work posted with this poem.
This reminded me of a poem in my profile called Swetsville Zoo about a scrapyard zoo a friend of mine took me to tour when I was visiting with her in Colorado. There are dozens and dozens of exhibits all made from scrap metal.
It also made me think about Mom's button box - we plan to have a family gathering so that we can make pins and barettes and trinkets from those treasures.
Your poem is delightful. You've included loads of alliteration, but the one I like best are the sounds of carefully and quickly.
Thanks for sharing.
Blessings,
Marsha
