A point well made in this well written phone discussion about wearing a dress to minister in church. Sometimes churches are rules by the desires and conventions of men. I often go back to Christ's own example for how I need to be. Frequently, his example is very different regarding women, than the church teaches.

Pat, I am so happy you stuck to your beliefs. God does not care that we wear pants. We need a church that teaches the Message of the Cross. What Jesus accomplished on the cross and finished in rising from the dead. He sits with His Father in heaven. We are under His Grace since Jesus did that and not under the Law of the Old Testament. God bless you, my dear. :>D Miss Sally

Thanks miss Sally for the review. As a Christian I will not straddle the fence between law and grace and that is what is happening in some churches. I even told my kids, do not bury me in a dress. I do not even own a dress, nor do I care to have one.

We had a strict dress code at a congregation. When we talked to a girl who had been unfaithful we found that her husband wouldn't let her own a dress...so she could never come back...That is silly God loves us all
We bind where he had not bound
God bless

I agree. One time I had a pastor who was to preach at another church. As he was on the platform by the pastor of the church. a lady came in with a very short skirt on. The pastor if the church leaned over to my pastor and said, "Watch, my ushers will have her out of the door in minutes." My pastor replied, " did it ever occur to you that the lady might need to be saved?"

G'day Patricia. You write stories in a most elegant fashion mate. This is a great and very easy to read little story. I don't know if God really cares what we wear as he made us naked in the beginning, cheers Fez

I think you should reconsider. Put on a dress and give your testimony. Paul said, "I am all things to all people, that I might win some to Christ." You can get mad at me, but the issue is your personal preference in how you will dress which is keeping you from testifying to the salvation in Christ for the benefit of others. I hope you think it through, because of what's at stake. What ever you decide, I trust we will still maintain fellowship in Christ.

Dennis, thanks for your review. I know exactly what yo0u are saying. I have done my testimony many times and I did wear a dress. To give my testimony in a church, may well not be in God's will. God is opening some door and I can give my testimony. I almost never fail to talk to people about the Lord as He moves e to speak and opens doors. Our fellowship would not be much of a fellowship if I or you either one broke the relationship on this point of view. I still respect you as my brother in the Lord and I know you respect me as your sister in the Lord.

Patricia! I was raised in a church that did not allow women to wear pants. I butted heads with my folks even as late as me being in my 40's over the fact that I started wearing pants after I got married. That church has long since abandoned the strictness of that legalistic approach, and I have been led by His Holy Spirit to worship at a place where it is more "come as you are" - just like Miss Cookie just wrote about using this writing of yours as an inspiration.
Folks come in wearing sweats, jeans, running suits, longer shorts, but dresses, too. Whatever THEY are most comfortable in.
Just like I shared with Miss Cookie, He wants us to come to Him just as we are without any pretense. If they could not accept you as you are that is a sad statement of who they are in Him.
Thanks for sharing.
Blessings and hugs,
Marsha

Thanks for the thoughtful review. I object to this rule because I live under grace, I am no longer under the law, seems to me we can't be straddling the fence between law and grace. It leads to confusion I think. I fought this battle many years ago in a church and going to a new church which I have done, it was one battle I didn't want to fight again. God looks on my heart and He knows what it in my heart.

I can understand your questioning. In my opinion, the stance of telling church members what they must wear is quite intolerant and not at all Godlike or Christian. I am not a Catholic but love what the new pope, Pope Francis says, "Who am I to judge?" I think I would find a church with a less pompous leader, one who would be grateful for your testimony. Thanks for this reminder to be less judgmental. Nice work.

Thanks for the review. I was considering the church, but with the discussion with the pastor and his wife, I chose not to attend the church. Many years ago I dealt with that situation and I stood strong and changed minds about the situation, but I just don't want to fight this same fight again,

Excellent photo that complements your story very well. You are so right it is not God that dictates to wear dresses. I only know of this in extremely strict communities.

Hi Patricia,
Your conversation with your friend is written very well. I don't understand why wearing slacks to church is so wrong and if you don't wear a dress you wouldn't be able to share anything at church.

Thanks for the review. All I know it seems the church is wanting to put people under old testament law. I live under new testament grace.

I rarely wear dresses anymore either.
