I work with a girl who always says 'I'm sorry.' But she doesn't just say it once. No, she says it five times in a row. I finally sat her down and told her if some one doesn't accept your first apology, they probably won't accept the following four. She has started to censor herself. This was a very poignant piece.

I give you so much credit for caring enough to tell your friend at work. That says a lot for you. Thanks foe sharing.

To be able to apologies sincerely is a wonderful attribute.

I certainly wouldn't attribute 'wonderful' to myself, but I've made many mistakes, and I'm never afraid to say sorry. Those that are incapable of this modesty really annoy me.

Of course there is the extreme, as your poem so well states, when someone has no confidence and apologies all the time, even when they're right.

Excellent!

Best wishes, Ray

I couldn't agree more. Sometimes it is a matter of too much of a good thing. Thanks for sharing.

How many people I've known like this. I think it begins in childhood when adults put so much guilt on a child. Truly, she misses her gifts. This has great rhyme.

Nice poem, one I can actually relate to. There are some of us who are always saying those words, while others cannot say them even though they have betrayed or offended someone dear.

I thought this well a fun write in one sense. I suppose because if you can relate, you enjoy rather easily. Ms. Drew

This was really interesting to read and something I can associate with as I am always saying sorry. I didn't realise it until someone pointed it out to me. Your poem had such a smooth rhythm making this such an interesting read. Excellent choice of words and I found this very visual and could almost see this person apologising even though she had done nothing wrong. Good luck in the competition with this. I really enjoyed the read. Genya

That is a good one, saying sorry for something before you have done anything wrong can be frustrating to those who listen. LOL, Some people don't say sorry when they should say it! This is a fun and well written contest poem. Good luck. xsx Sandra

Should this be written in first person? From the directive it seems that might be the case. They say that people who go through life like this probably had a super-critical parent in their life...I used to fall all over myself trying to make up for my inadequacies. Now I just unapologetically tell them that I did my best. If it's not enough, find someone else!

Hmmm... you must be Canadian. "Oh, I'm sorry" is just part of our everyday vernacular... we hardly even think about it when it falls out of our mouths a hundren times each day!

That aside, when one truly believes one is constantly at fault, it is a heavy burden to bear.

I too used be apologetic for everything. I would always qualify my asctions with "sorry" whether it be good or bad. I found I was unable to receive compliments, or I never believed them. It limited my life and so I made a conscious decision to remove the word "sorry" from my vocabulary. It took a little time to get used to but has made a world of difference in my life.

YOur poem expresses the anguish youi must feel. Your quatrains read smooth and fast with good meter. A nice entry for this contest. Rod

Most of us are entirely too hard on ourself. That was an inspirational way to show this by her continual use of 'I'm sorry." Very nice poem. Best wishes for the contest.
