Sounds like your sister is most thoughtful and generous in addition to being talented, as is also true of you :-)
solid use of rhyming couplets
good use of enjambment
love the delightful details
great use of alliteration and internal rhyme
perfect details, wonderful spirit - I'm sure Charlotte will cherish both quilt and poem as family heirlooms when she is old and gray :-) Brooke

What a terrific idea, a poem to accompany the quilt. Two gifted sisters--one sews quilts and the other a poet. Great combination. Your poem rhymes well, colorful and clever. Word choices are excellent. Good play on words, i.e., "Whose wish-upon-a-starfish" and other such lines. Nice.

Thanks for the kind words Marilyn. I had fun collaborating with my sister on this. I haven't the eyes or the patience for quilting, so it's a good thing I can rhyme. - Wendy

Gifting a poem with a gifted quilt is a wonderful idea. I always felt a quilt holds a bit of the maker's spirit and so does a poem. A lovely gift to be prized.

Thanks for the rave my dear. Someone suggested that my sis and I go into the quilt and quip business. It would be fun but I'm not sure it would pay the grocery bill. I am glad you liked the piece and I thank you for taking time to give it a look over. - Wendy

It would pay some of the bills...Quilt and Quip,is awesome..I wrote a poem that would be great with a stuffed puppy..it was my nephew's life line Pepper was.

    Pepper the nightmare eating pup
I'm fearless, I'm furry, I eat them up
I'm stuffed with bravery cotton and stuff
I'll eat all your bad dreams monster-y rough

I'm Pepper the bad dream eating pup
I fly on the nightmare and gobble 'em up
I'm ready with sword light wielding saber
I'll fight the dinosaur, witch or neighbor

I'm Pepper the fearless black furry pup
Monsters in closets, I eat them all up
Whisper your wishes, the things that give fright
And hold me and squish me all through the night

I'm Pepper the brave, who eats bad dreams up
For your hug I'm the eat anything, pup
One thing a puppy like me wants to say
I'm good, I'm brave cos you've made me that way!
esome..I wrote a poem for a stuffed puppy

We all had a favorite blanket or quilt as kids that we carried around like Linus from The Peanuts. What a great idea to pen a poem of a child's adventures with her quilt.

Thanks for the read and review. I didn't have a blanket, but my much abused, tattered and torn Bozo The Clown went everywhere with me. I appreciate the stars. - Wendy

Great rhyme and flow and so many fun childhood references with Snow White, Charlotte's Web, Aladdin, and Dumbo. I am sure the friend not only loved the blanket, but the wonderfully written poem as well.

The baby shower isn't until the end of the month, but my sister said she cried when she read the poem so I guess it will go over well. Now, if she will only follow the advice and let the baby have at it I will be happy. I appreciate the read and review. - Wendy

G'day Wendy. Wow mate! That is one fantastic piece of beautifully crafted poetry as I'm sure the quilt is. What a light relief this is after the doom and gloom on here of late. I don't have any sixes mate, but I wish I had one for you. Cheers and thanks Fez

Hi, Rosehill,

What a nice thing to do for your sister. She's right, things too pretty to use, don't get used.

Fun poem, and great presentation.

Cheers & Blessings

I think you and your sister are a class act, creating a paired quilt and poem. Speaking broadly, I think that's an idea that would sell. Did you ever think of going into business with her? Rosehill quilts?

The recipient of this quilt and poem will be thrilled, I've no doubt. I like the way you wove in the idea of using the quilt with the line: "great spots of joy, huge happy stains."

I hope it survives the slings and arrows of the proposed spots and splatters, since I think it will turn out to be a bit of nostalgia in Charlottes life.

Cheers,
DW

Thanks for the read and review Donald. I don't know why your writing isn't popping up in my message box. I tried to re-fan you, but it blew me off, saying it would be redundant. So I guess I'll shoot off a message to Tom to find out why. I guess if my Sister and I ever retire, we could have a go at that idea of yours. Right now, it will have to remain an avocation. She does one quilt a year and I'm thinking that won't help pay for a dental plan. Nice to hear your cyber voice and the sixth is quite an honor. - Wendy

Wendy, this poem about the quilt your sister made for a friend's baby is absolutely priceless! Had I been the lucky receiver, I would framed your poem, and made sure my child had her special quilt with her where ever she went. Deserving of a six-star salute, but sadly I have none left.

Hi there. Actually my sister just read it and said she is going to have it transferred onto some of the quilt material and framed to hang on the wall. Another member here suggested I go into it as a side-line. Quips for your quilts would be a fun way to earn money wouldn't it?. I appreciate the wish for a sixth and I am honored that you wanted to bestow it. - Wendy
