I must admit my friend, I mean it in the most loving way, I join with your beloved, sorrowing pastor, in the chorus! Well done with this one, I have made a decision, years ago now, that I would believe the whole cannon, and am amazed that people preach so vociferously against these things, my belief is always...He who raises the dead, heals the impossibly cured, and holds this universe together, it is a trifling thing to do what He says He'll do, HOW BIG IS GOD!!' Beautifully scribed, nicely compiled, nice general abab rhyming, well done, blessings, and HEAR, HEAR, Roy.

This is a great poem but there are parts of it that seems to add a dark twist to the bright light and Forgiveness of God and Jesus Christ. The words below does not accord with my view of our Forgiving and Gracious God:
""While those I've left behind, beware!
They'll feel the gnashing teeth and bite."
Well done, Dean, for sharing with us your poetic talent.

Matthew 13:42 --And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Sorry, Rod, not my words, but the words of the disciple Matthew himself. Is this your idea of a loving, forgiving God? Once that day comes, and the Seventh Trump sounds -- forgiveness will be a thing of the past, I'm afraid. if anyone hasn't accepted salvation before then, I'm afraid it will be too late.

    Thanks for your review.

I appreciate and respect your beliefs, your faith and your writing ability. However, I don't share them, Dean. I believe some of the things I've done can't be for given and other things I've done, I'd do over again. I believe when I die, I'll go where I'm supposed to go. Forgiveness and repentance does not make a wrong right. This is just 'my belief'. A very good poem from a very good writer. Your pastor will be pleased. Best wishes.

Hi Dean
I have been a Christian for many years, since 1974, in fact, and baptized at 25 years of age in 1976. The Bible isn't easy to understand, so much prophecy there.
As I understand it, when we die, our souls goes to heaven ...or hell. This depends on whether or not we have accepted God's gift, Jesus Christ, as our personal Savior. A lot of non-Christians say, "I can't believe in a God who would send people to hell." But God sends no one to hell! In fact, He loves us so much that He made a way for us to go to heaven. He sent His Son down here to be the sacrificial Lamb, the payment for every sin we ever committed. Sin demands a sacrifice. That's hard to understand too, isn't it? A song that helped me see where God is coming from, when it comes to sin and the need for the shedding of blood, is "Where Is The Lamb?" by Wendy Francisco. Here's a link:
http://youtu.be/7npC5ZALB1w
Sin is a terrible thing. God hates sin, but loves the sinner. The story of Abraham & Isaac showed me the true side of our God, and what the Gospel is all about.
So, getting back to our souls when we die,
"We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord." 2 Corinthians 5:8
Our souls, if we are Christians, go to heaven right away when we die, instantly... wherever heaven is. Our bodies, these shells of who we once were, go into the ground... dust to dust, ashes to ashes. The corruptible can't inherit heaven, but when God tells Jesus... "Go and collect your bride"... we will be changed in the twinkling of an eye, incorruptible, the dead first to be re-united with their souls, and after that those of us who are living when the rapture takes place. What a gathering in the sky that will be... as Johnny Cash sang about it "Daddy sang bass, Momma sang tenor".
"In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed." 1 Corinthians 15:52
The dead won't come out of the ground as a decaying corpse or bag of bones. It will arise incorruptible, a heavenly body reunited with their soul. And these folk, our ancestors, will be there in the sky as we join them... we, who are living in that day.
But can you imagine the state of affairs here on earth in that day? Christians from all walks of life will disappear instantly. Planes without pilots, governments without certain leaders, churches without pastors, cars without drivers ... the freeways will be in a terrible mess, accidents all over the place. A lot of people will be killed in that moment! Missing relatives... I could go on and on, but I won't. You get the idea. But many think the antichrist will be around in that day. He will have an explanation for the survivors, those "left behind". Perhaps he'll say, "The earth has been invaded from outer space! They have taken many prisoners." His job will be to explain this mystery to a lot of dumbfounded people.
The rapture might happen today. Or it might happen a hundred years from now. I say, watch Israel and the Middle East. That's where the evidence will be. Who ever thought much about terrorists ten years ago? Look at what's happening today... ISIS, and how it affects us on the other side of the world!
You tell a story of a father who has lost his infant son and a 20 year old daughter. He is angry, and yells at God,
"Haven't you got enough angels?"
At that very moment, as if God heard his rant (and He did indeed), the rapture was taking place. The father's children died just shortly before the rapture happens.
It's your next line that I would disagree with,
"While those I've left behind, beware!" As I've said, God doesn't leave anyone behind. He wants all of us to be with Him in heaven. He doesn't want one single person to go to hell. And that's why He tarries. It must make Him twitch to see ISIS terrorists cut off heads with a simple knife. And yet He waits... and waits... and waits. Who will come to me? Perhaps today. One more. He's like that shepherd who leaves the 99 and looks for that lost one. So He holds off telling Jesus to go and collect His bride. We are the bride. And we must always be ready for the Groom to call. But most of us aren't ready. Many Christians themselves aren't ready. They are enjoying this life too much. They're like Lot's wife who turned and looked back as fire and brimstone rained down on Sodom & Gomorrah. She liked her life among the wicked. She didn't want to leave it behind.
Am I getting off target here? ... perhaps~
Anyway, this is a great poem about the rapture. You've done a nice job with it, except for that one line I mentioned. It's nice to see you write with a slightly different tone. Still a bit about the dead, but bodies rising from the ground are like Jesus' body after He rose from the dead.
Good imagery! And the father in your story? Imagine his joy upon seeing his infant son and daughter once again! What a reunion! There will be no tears in heaven.
Thanks for sharing!
your fan,
Kimbob

Beautifully written poem about the rapture of the church! A glorious day for some and an absolute day of terror for others. I don't want to be on the side that has the weeping and gnashing teeth! I love the creative artistry on page and the turning up of the corner to turn the page.

I can understand the father's rage at his son and daughter being taken. Were they both dead and raised early before the rapture? Sounds like God is going to raise the dad up into the air also. If I understand it correctly, I hope I don't get left behind. Does trying very hard to do what's right count even if we still keep making mistakes?

But I am like you in this Dean, you have written better poems.

God bless...be you we love you...

Interesting view point you have shared. I think you are saying that you do not agree with the pre-trib rapture? According to what I have studied, that theology is actually quite new and has only come into existence over the past two hundred years. I was raised believing that way, but it is something I no longer feel scripture supports. I did read the whole Left Behind series after receiving it from a friend, and have watched several of the movies which have been created from the series.

One friend of mine, a Jewish believer says in thinking of all the pre, mid, and post trib concepts he has decided he is pan-trib...and that it will all pan out in the end.

Thanks for sharing,
Blessings
Marsha

This was a riveting read, Dean, you will have to tell us what your Pastor thought of it. LOL, he must wonder about you at times, when he reads your devilishly satanic poems, not the sort of thing you envision a pastor reading! You met his challenge well, my friend, and I enjoyed reading your authors notes. Brilliant. :) Sandra.
