That was an enjoyable read. Great rhyming. It's an odd feeling to go back and trigger old memories. Sometimes it's best not to!

The old house is a bit like the cycle of life. When we're young we are useful and full of life, but in old age the rot sets in! How sad for your family that your niece is so sick. Cancer is a dreadful scourge of man kind. I hope all your family can find some peace and contentment at Christmas time. Hugs, Giddy

This is beautifully penned and is filled with nostalgia and emotion.
I also found it kind of haunting especially the last verse. It is sad to see houses fall into disrepair. so many now and many new houses will not stand the test of time either.
Nicely done.

An old dilapidated house that has witnessed so many happy moments and tragedies bring nostalgia and pathos. Your poem touches them nicely. The picture heightens the feelings further.

Janet, This is a lovely piece that reminds me of my memories about my parents house. After both of my parents passed, I sold my family home of seventy years. Because I was a licensed builder at the time, I was the one who bulldozed it. I dozed for the new owner of the property, so they could build a new modern house on the lot. It was a devastating feeling to see all my memories crashing to the ground. Excellent work. Carole

Thank you Carole for your thoughtful and heartfelt review and the generous six stars. That must have been devasting to bulldoze your family home. My Grandmas home was torn down but I wasn't there for the demolition, thank goodness.
Have a Merry Christmas.

What a beautiful, bittersweet poem you've penned. I especially like the third stanza - it simply exudes motherly love for a family. I'm so sorry to read that your niece is so ill - I will be sure to say a prayer for her and your family.
Warm regards,
Christina

I love your poem. I love old houses and always believed there's a story in each one of them. You would enjoy my book about an old house. "My Walls Speak, Carolyn Long Silvers, on Amazon.

Pictures and old photos have a way of reminding us memories of the past whether sad or happy. Your poem clearly captured those memories in those poetic lines. An excellent write. God bless.

The poem reveals that there were many fond memories in that house. Makes you feel sad that the house is now abandoned and it is no longer home. Well written.
