Wow! You sure made your point with this poem. How they can see themselves as fat when they are skin & bones, I'll never know. Like you said, it is the deception.

Great art work as well to help make your poem believable.

Blessings in the contest. LaVonne

You have done a fabulous job putting this poor, troubled young woman's words into thoughts, Dean.

What a monster these diseases are.

Merry Christmas to you. Have a blessed holy season. Here's to peaceful sleep.

Hi,

This is such a good story, and the moral---be yourself, like yourself, and the hell with those who think you should fit into a certain persona!

You did an excellent job with this one.

Good luck in the contest.

*Happy Holidays* OR *Happy Hanukkah*

Cheers & Blessings

Good take on the 'what you see in the mirror contest. Her aberration resembles a cadaver; a bone yard of bones and fragmentation. Exclamation! Really disturbing image that she sees in the mirror. No one wants a fat lady, she thinks. I must regurgitate, I pass on that slice of pie. Got to dash for the porcelain throne, puke up my lunch and brunch. A curse of mental sickness caused by childhood trauma, I suppose. I real contender, I'm no pretender. spook-a-doo, boo...

Thanks very much, Spook-A-Doo, and you're right, it is a terrible disease and can even lead to death if it is not properly treated. It's so sad the implications that the media puts in the heads of children, that to be successful, popular -- and yes, even loved -- you have to be thin and beautiful. That is a crime in my book because everyone is beautiful in their own, special way.

I concur... society is partly to blame. Thanks for your reply, Spook-a-Doo, boo...

I'm working on a sentimental poem. Not sure what category it fits. Philosophy, I suppose. You would never guess that I wrote it. Spook-a-Doo

I'll be looking forward to it. I'm writing a western themed story poem called "The Ghost of Marion Lear". I'll post it Sunday...I hope??

A re you having trouble with the new format. I am trying to get this to play.

Don't worry , Spooky. I gave them the option with the video. I tried every spot in the code. Maybe it's this new system. It worked before? I gave up. Something seems different. If you get it -- let me know. i tried it at the end and middle with ?autoplay=1 with no success. Some tweak I may have to do, I'm confounded. I posted it -- tell me what you think when you get the time, and I'm looking forward to what you posted. Spook-a-Doo, boo...

I'm not sure about the new updated FanStory, Spook. I rarely ever use it. I just know they all work fine on the classic version.

That's it. I did not use the classic version. Oh, well. I gave the readers the option of playing the video of the sad violins. Later SPOOKY!

Well presented for dramatic effect.

This is a far from rare problem among the young. They see themselves as fat and can only think of dieting to dangerous levels.

Descriptively written, creatively shocking, leading to the conclusion, that final terror ... DEATH! (in the picture)

Hi, Deano.

My daughter, like a lot of teenage girls, went through this disturbing phase. She became really skinny, and whatever I said she refused to listen. Thankfully, she grew out of it.

Of course, a lot of the trouble is girls become obsessed with pictures they see of skinny super models, movie stars, and other heroines they wish to emulate, and become blind to how they really look, themselves.

Very strong observations here, of how this girl just cannot see the truth and you cleverly personify her reflection as another person in her eyes.

Top write, my friend.

Hey, I see there's now a contest in your honour. You should be rightly proud, especially as there are so many reservations to prove your popularity.

I left my 'entry' in a contest 'thread'. :-)

Cheers, Ray

Thanks, Ray, I am really glad you liked this one. They are terrible diseases but can be completely treated if caught in time.

Yeah, Michaelk asked me if it would be ok to do the contest. I told him he's probably be better off not wasting his money because I doubted anyone would enter. I'm happy to know that so far, at least, I was wrong.

    Thanks again!

A powerful look into the mind of a bulimic! We often don't understand the reality of this false view they see in a mirror, or how it drives them to such insane extremes. No matter what others tell her (or him in rare cases) she still sees a fat cow in the mirror, and starves herself further. Horrifically, even to death, on occasion.

Like I said. . .powerful (and stark).

Thank you for reading and embracing this message, Lorraine. I very much appreciate it. I realize it is a bit graphic, but it is such a horribly devastating illness. Not just to the ones afflicted, but their families offer suffer right along with them as well.

This is indeed a horror beyond imagination. The toll this disease takes not only on the person, but the family is untold sadness. You've done a terrific job of playing the blindness of self-image to someone with this disease. Well penned. AT=/

Thank you very much for reading into the message behind this poem, Jean. You're absolutely right, the effects are devastating not only to the afflicted, but their families suffer right alongside of them as they are forced to witness their self-destruction.

I truly appreciate your very encouraging review. :)

This is an important and delicate piece of social commentary! Anorexia is a plague of our time. Body images are distorted and malignant.
Thank you for sharing!
Good luck with the contest!

A powerful poem to be sure. These diseases that mainly afflict teens or young adults are some of the hardest to treat. Eating disorders are killers. Best wishes in the voting.
