Very nicely written from your point of view. Mine is different to some extent so I won't comment on content. These are the best lines for me:
"It comes within a body born
A physical casing shrouds
its form

It was given us by the living God
Long before on earth
we trod"

What a wonderful spiritual poem for the soul writing prompt. Your last two stanzas sum it up well what you think is the soul. Good luck in the contest.

This was one of the most beautiful poems that I've ever read. I believe that I have a happy soul, however sometimes sad times fall upon it... which I think is in the Lords plan to bring us back to HIM. I'm so in awe with this beautifully written 'scripture' type poetic verse, that I need time to digest it before I could say anything more. Thank you for sharing an intimate part of your very own soul and good luck in the contest.

The 'essence of our being' is definitely that certain something that makes us tick. We determine the nature of our souls by our choices. The rewards will be many if the choices are good. Well expressed thoughts and good use of rhyming and imagery to convey your thoughts. Good luck in the contest. Faye
