A very stark well written, though it's dark it has a vitality to the narrative, the consequences of existing in this Dean Kuch world would be dire indeed! Beautifully written, it flows eloquently, the language is darkly persuasive, but they are sucked into the ferryman's vortex! Even metered, abab rhyming, blessings, Roy.

The minds reels with responses to the content, but I'll spare us that this Sunday morning. Quite a presentation. Entertaining. Excellent.

    Thanks very much, Barb, I'm really happy that you enjoyed reading this. I was up very late last night, thinking of how the world has changed so much in the fifty-four years since I was born, and this poem came about.

    I'm truly grateful for your exceptional rating and thoughtful comments. :}

This might very well be the best I've experienced by you, Dean. Your message is obviously a vital one. The music is fitting: dramatic and sad, imo. This is an exceptionally good Wake Up call, Dean!

Blessings!

Mike

An excellent subject for a horror poem.

Appropriate pictures depict your ideas well, made all the more dramatic by the black and white presentation.

Dramatic mournful music issued with good timing on a cold dark Sunday morning.

Your selection of victims are well described and realistic.

Written with flair. Regards :) Mel.

Chilling, as usual! Particularly so as these particular victims are making the journey to him themselves, not waiting for his ominous approach. This is what makes your poem a stand-out in my book. It is not just horror for the sake of horror. It is a tragic commentary on our times when so many of our young people imagine death preferable to life. Our daughter seemed for a while to be reaching out to the ferryman, obolus in hand, ready for the journey. Death at the time was wearing the mask of Kurt Cobain.

    Thanks, Tony, and I really am glad you read between my lines and realize that I don't post horrific, dark topics simply for the sake of writing horror. I use that genre and medium, as I have for quite some time, to try and make a statement, or a pertinent point, if you will. I simply do it in an unusual way, is all.

    Thanks for the wonderful feedback and exceptional rating, my friend. As always, I am deeply grateful. :}
