A powerful testimony to depending on our faith, our Savior and redeemer. Depression lurks for me too Teresa, and sometimes when I least expect it. This is a beautiful free verse and meets the standard of excellence I came tyo expect from your work.

Thank you so much Rod. I am so sorry that depression lurks in you as well.

Not to be sorry. I have learned to combat depression and use it as inspiration. It just hurts when I'm in it. It does seem to plague me less the older I get. I hope this is true for you as well teresa. ~Blessings~

Hi Teresa,
You imagery is stark and ominous, and worded as only someone who has been in these shoes could write.
I love the reference to the strength and peace that only faith in God can bring.
The precious thing about suffering is that it's never wasted. It makes one a repository of empathy and compassion to others who are afflicted, doesn't it?
So glad you've fought and overcome.
God bless you, dear.
Love,
xxx

It does make us more compassionate to others and thankful when we don't have depression. Thanks so much Sonali:)

Hi Tab,
very interesting ride through the shadows and thoughts that birth from such reflections... been in theses shadows many times through a willingness to give into the black that lurks in the shadows waiting to pounce.
I loved your construction, it had a real sense of impact on your subject matter and I wish you all the strength in the world to fight off the 'Black dog' that is chained... just out of reach... yet his bark still echoes.
With our thoughts we create,
the power of recognition,
James xx

This may not be about you but the pain and emotion is so real and that is what writing is all about. Writing about something so real it could be about you. Great job

Like a lurking serpent, depression waits for the perfect moment to strike the unlucky person who ignores the life giving, life saving words found in scripture. The advice is of course do not wait until you are under attack. If you develop the habit of having Bible trained conseince and a Bible trained spirit, depression can and will be kept at bay. You describe this terrible disease like one who has been under its influence a tie or two.

Thanks for the new-to-me word 'zil' Something to keep in the larder when doing an ABCDerian. a treasure for sure - like Zeugma.
The poem itself is extremely well written, even though the topic is one of sorrow and despair.
Very poignant lines:
Not I.
I fall into the shadows of my soul
dying in the darkness.
We all go there sometimes - and its a good reminder that some of us are there at any given moment. That should teach us to be kind to others - one never knows what is in another's soul. We need to reach out more.
For the times when no one is reaching out - its good that you have the support and strength of your faith.
Rose.

It's true - we don't know what others are going through so we need to be kind. Thank you Rose for the great review:)

Sure life lives and it lives on even after we die. So what lives. Where in do we suffer. How do we progress through suffering? Can it only be our ego-consciousness? That is all it might be and that might be everything. -Ekim777 This is a pithy poem about pain.

Depression is a nasty thing. I've seen what it can do to people and even had to ward it off a few times in myself. This is well written.

This poem is lovely, although I have no sixes remaining, it is certainly worth one. I had to read it over a couple of times to totally understand what I was reading, as this form of free verse is very rare, but the flow is smooth and imagery is right-on, vividly depicting the smooth flow of love, and the rocky road of loss. I enjoyed the read.
