"Monsters sleep inside my head" - the opening line is most significant indicating the trickery of the subconscious on the conscious. If only we can control our thoughts, fear will seize to exist....
The first read was tense and scary.
A better appreciation evolved by removing the pictures in my mind evoked by the threatening words - lurking, gut you quick...then the fear of loss of family members. Very well developed.
Pleasant night to me !

hey Dean...how in heck do you do the sound thing?
any way...I had fun with this, then checked under my bed, only dust bunnies, large enough to eat me, with red eyes and big teeth...I sucked them up in the hoover and now am scared of the hoover. it sits in the corner and breaths and I am sure it has advanced on me, crawling like a wounded dog..
dang, I better get the housework done before i write any more..though I admit, going up to the dryer on the17th florr of our tower black...scres me. whta is in the stariwell, and what is that noise behind the old coin wash machine and why oh why fo I read horror....
thanksit is 7 A M and i am already....tip toeing around:-)

    Oh...mercy me... the "sound thing". Me & Wackydo been working on it all day long, padu, LOL. Ask him about our little adventures with the "sound thing", if you know him. He'll fill you in completely...LOL...

    As for your continued future on Terra Firma looking very positive -- that's great! I'm glad you're being allowed to hang around awhile -- wink--wink -- The monsters beneath my bed aren't quite as nice as yours, apparently.

    Why do you read horror? For the ---RUSH---, why else?

    Thanks for the excellent review, my friend. :}

Good stuff, Dean. I'm afraid to look under my own bed. I don't know why, though. They can't be any worse than the ones you have lurking under you own. And you've stood up under it quite well.

    Hah-ha, maybe not, Jay. But you'll never know until you look, right?

    Thanks for the R&R, buddy. :}

I think you're spoofing the genre. Warning: highest level of violence?? Not to mention the skip-along meter. No heaviness here. Nietzsche's quote is frightening though. Hope this isn't happening to you!

    You'd be right, Spit, it is intended as a spoof of sorts. I'm not sure what you mean by the violence thing, but the warning I put on it was concerning the music. I ain't all that violent, not really.

    Nope, it could never happen to me. That stuff doesn't phase me in the least...demons and the like. Never have worried too much about it, as I know my faith is strong enough to combat anything the ole devil throws my way, LOL.

Dean, Monster Matter, especially with the spooky sound track, makes for a scary read. I am sure I will have to check under my bed tonight before I go to sleep! Nice ABAB rhyme scheme. 8-)

Hey Dean, Super poem and just downright scary. I don't keep the sound on my computer because it drives the dogs nuts. Go figure. Great job on this one. Judy

    Thanks, Judy. Yeah, I have three dogs myself. They think I'm very strange, I can sense it by the way they stare at me (LOL)...

    Have a g-r-r-r-r-e-a-t Thanksgiving! :}

Thanks for another fun and entertaining read and presentation. If only we took the time to look at all those around us and could figure out the evil thoughts in their minds, we wouldn't leave the house. Be glad you don't know my thoughts. Great job. :-)

    Ha, well, I guess since you put it that way, Ric, then it's probably best that I don't know your thoughts. I have enough crazy thoughts of my own rollin' around up there, LOL.

    Thanks very much for the review. :}

Dean,
tactful alliteration's("beneath my bed")("Dad are dead")("sweet baby sister"), exceptional descriptive and expressive imagery(through the use of pictures and music which represent the poem so well), effective and resourceful inventive and creative imagination, excellent rhyming (neither forced nor labored) and superb rhythm(flows smoothly throughout the writing).
These are some of the traits and qualities that I found within your poem Dean.
Again you show a masterful way of entertaining the reader to their fullest. Impressive composition all the way through.
Thank you for sharing and posting and may the good Lord be with you always Dean.

You've written a scary one here, Dean! Although the music is eerie, it enhances yours words in a terrific way. If I understand, the subject of your poem has murdered all of his family although he attributes their deaths to the "monster" in his head. Yes?

Your rhyming is perfect, and your graphic language is quite amazing.

Thanks for the "pleasant screams," I think! :) Take care. Alana

    Yep, you got it, Alana, that's the gist of the poem. The young boy -- for whatever reasons -- has slaughtered his entire family, and now his monsters live all around him. Great review, I really appreciate it!
