Our hero saved the skyways -
he tamed the raging sea.
While armed with nothing but two swords,
he set his kingdom free.

What a treat - a story in a poem - the rhythm and rhyme just
perfect - and the lovely picture - my youngest grandson slept like that - I've a picture of him with his bottom stuck up in the air. Also Paul did also, but he wouldn't like me mentioning it now he's 42. I've just been talking to him on the phone - he's hurt his back at work and is amazed how the pain is travelling down his leg. I gave him some motherly advice of course.

thanks for sharing this, Brooke.

Thank you so much, Margaret - a sixth star from you is always an honor :-) Yeah, it's amazing how when our kids grow up they don't want to hear about the cute/slightly embarrassing habits of their childhood. LOL :-) Brooke

Brooke: such a cute poem of a small dragon slayer, sleeping like a baby after battle. This is really sweet and has your perfect rhyme and rhythm quatrains which are so easy to read. Great job once again. Linda

Once again you did an excellent job with this delightful post. The thing I like best about your poems is that I can always understand them. I guess that's because you mostly write children's poetry. In any event, I enjoyed reading this short narrative.

Gerald, thank you so much :-) I'm not a big fan of obscure poems that just make readers feel stupid. LOL The New Yorker specializes in that type, not I. LOL Brooke

This is just delightful! I love the fierce journey just as a child does. lol The rhyme and rhythm really set the kind of pace that children love. What can be more engaging for a child to watch this hero slaying dragons! The ending was a really nice touch! I thoroughly enjoyed. Blessings! Pat :)

Dragon slaying and monster slewing is mighty tiring
work, woman. Plenty of time for a parade on the
morrow, what?
And the only reason Sir Sawyer's, er, roundness, is in the air, is so he can keep an ear to ground! And old knightly trick.

I just had a revelation, Brooke. One of these days, with your permission, I'm going to take one of your story poems, and turn it into a humpwhistle-style story.
Waddayathink?

Peace, Lee

You know, I'd love that too.
I won't tell you ahead of time, but I will give you the courtesy of a preview.

I can already hear dragons speaking Yiddish.
And I'm a Congregationalist. Where did I go wrong?

This is a wonderful adventure narrative, Brooke, that any little boy would enjoy.
You have certainly created a marvelous hero for your tale who with two silver swords and lots of courage saved the land from dragons.
I really like your rhymes in this one, especially "depths" and "steps."
Lots of action and a happy ending. Bravo!

Sweet little hero and modest too as he slips off to bed before public recognition. LOL
I like his determination to conquer in victory, his prize a well earned slumber.
Wonderful picture. He actually looks very comfortable.

How can I not enjoy this one..The only thing missing is his Unicorn named Dream. I have also slayed a dragon or two in my life and have some burn marks to prove it lol

The photo is gorgeous and complements your rhyming poem very well. Sawyer can conquer everything, even when sleeping:) Original poem.

Totally adorable poem, Brooke. Ah, the dreams of a very young man. I often wondered how a person could sleep in such a position.

"Great monsters soon were racing
to hide in ocean's depths,
and any dragons still alive
dragged off with limping steps."

Very entertaining and so well written!
