I like this one, especially the twist at the end. Personally, since they were digging i the wrong spot, I would have kept my mouth shut, but I guess they eventually would have found her. Great job with this one.

Yep, he would have been nailed eventually for sure, Sasha. Thanks for checking out this chapter in my new book. I don't know how long I'll be able to come up with new material, but to fill an entire book, I imagine it would take 70 to 80 such stories.

Nine down, and just seventy-one to go, heh-heh...

    Much obliged. :) ~Dean

Dean: this one let me breathe . . . not the scariest. Maybe because people killing other people and burying them in their basement and backyard is not a new idea. Who was that guy who played a clown at children's parties? The one who killed young men and buried them in his basement or under the house? But that's o.k. I need to breathe without fear for a moment and now I'll enter another "Twilight Zone". Linda

John Wayne Gacy was his name, Linda. he mutilated, sexually assaulted and buried more than 33 teenage boys and young men in a series of killings committed between 1972 and 1978 in Chicago, Illinois.

Gacy was sentenced to death for 12 of these killings on March 13, 1980. He spent 14 years on death row before he was executed by lethal injection at Stateville Correctional Center on May 10, 1994.

Gacy became known as the "Killer Clown" due to his charitable services at fundraising events, parades and children's parties where he would dress as "Pogo the Clown", a character he devised himself. What a perfect ruse to stake out potential new "prospects", right?

Thanks so much for reading yet another chapter of Tiny Terrors, my friend. I really appreciate that! :)

I wonder how you managed to compile all your flash fictions in one book? I browsed them again... I read some and missed some. But I still enjoy the horror. Can you sponsor another contest with 100 words again? I hope to join... Cheers to the best Fanstorian! cheers to Dean Kuch! c", mae

You simply create a new book, c", Mae, then go through your portfolio and add the stories you want.

To the right of the FanStory logo, at the top of the page, but just beneath the tool bar at the top, you'll see three tabs. "Read", "WRITE", and "CONTESTS". By holding your cursor over "WRITE", a drop down menu will appear, giving you three options. "POST", "BOOK" ( which is the one you'll want to create a new book), and "BROWSE ARTWORK FOR POSTS."

You'll have to name your book, add your stories (or poetry), and give a brief synopsis or summary of what the book's about. Then, that's it, you're done!

I'll consider another 100 word horror contest just for you, my friend. My current contest, Dr. Terry Fying's Crumbling Crypt 2 is bombing miserably. It needs five entries to go "live", yet is has just four entrants signed on. I refuse to enter my own contest like I did the last time. There were a few who claimed that I created the contest just so I could win, whcih could not have been further from the truth. There were some outstanding entries by some of this sites best authors, well worthy of winning the prize. I just got lucky. ;)

Thanks again, my dear friend. Much obliged. ~Dean

We really can't please everybody! My apology for not joining your contest. Oftentimes, I get scared for I may fall short and I always have grammatical errors. I intend to review my English. I just have more important things to do. Anyway, summer is in the air here in the Philippines, so I have a lot of free time to read, write and review. Thanks for the info. I'll save this for my future reference. c", Mae

Hey, I completely understand, c", Mae. Not to worry. Look for that 100 word horror contest coming very soon. Deal? :)

I can't promise. I get lost when I read about great Fanstorians joining the contest. But, I am already collecting some gruesome ideas in my head hehe c", Mae

Well, if you don't promise to enter, then I'm not going to create it. Look, here's what you do (I can't believe I'm about to share trade secrets with you!) Write about something that absolutely terrifies you. Because when something scares you and you write about it, that comes through and resonates with your readers. If you write about something but you're not afraid of it, it will seem contrived and fall flat.

That's what I do (yes, a great many things scare me), and if you do that, write it from your heart and gut and not your head, you can't go wrong.!~Dean

    Don't worry, I won't be a threat hahaha

I'll enter if it is just a short prompt so I will have less grammatical errors and entries are blind.

To tell you the truth, I'm more scared to people and not so much with ghosts.

Thank you so much my friend. I'll protect your trade secrets. *smile* c", Mae

Heck, people scare the crap outta me a lot more than any monsters or demons ever could, c", mae! And in a lot of cases, they're a heck of a lot meaner too, heh-heh... ;)

Ah, shades of the Tell Tale Heart! Nicely done with the twist at the end. I like how you told it first person and conversaionalized it. Good job!

My 21 year old, Steven, is an avid reader. He enjoys Poe's work, but calls him the psycho dude from Baltimore. I enjoyed reading your contest entry. I am wondering why it didn't come into my PM box. I am a fan.

Thanks, Barbara, and I'm glad you enjoyed this parody of Poe's, "A Tell-Tale Heart". It was a blind contest entry, so none of my fans were notified, for obvious reasons. It got spanked in the contest as well, 15-8 votes. Apparently, parody doesn't sit too well with the voters, LOL.

Thanks again, much obliged. ( hah-hah, a psycho dude from Baltimore, he says...)

LOL, what a turnaround! I loved this one, the cat had the last laugh. (As usual, mine always does) You certainly have captured the Poe, thing here, Dean, he would be proud of you!! :) Sandra

Thanks, Sandra. It was a Poe parody, but parody doesn't seem to sit too well with voters. I got spanked in the contest it was entered in, 15 votes to 8.

Oh well... you can't win 'em all, right?

    Thanks for the review! :}

Wow! That was a twist and a pun ... a 'twunst', for sure. Looks like the black cat's unreliable narrator and the guy from the tell-tale heart both got let down by their worst enemies --- themselves. Nice spoof, Dean.

Thanks, Bill, I'm glad you "got it". You've obviously read that classic Poe tale. Sadly, many voters who voted in the contest hadn't, I fear. It went right over their heads, LOL.

    Thanks again, much obliged! :)

Hahahaha! OMG, I swear, it just doesn't get more gruesome while still entertaining us with the humour of the situation...best of luck with this gem. I'd rate a six if I had one!

ha-ha, yeah, i thought it was a pretty good parody of Poe's classic, The Tell-Tale Heart, but not too many readers cared for it all that much. Seems that not many have read Poe these days, and the humor was lost on the majority.

Thanks heavens you've read it, Dawn, so you completely understand.

    Thanks so much again!

Very eerie. Personally, I love cat stories - they just beg to be memorialized with words. "Bart, she named that infernal feline Bart!" (as though the name brought the evil) "incessant meweling" (great description; it's what they do best, isn't it?) I have to admit, this was definitely macabre, but with a whit of humor ("along side her). And that picture is really creepy - those eyes say it all. Devil Cat. Kept my attention. Meowzer!

Thanks, Veeb, and actually I have Poe to thank for the inspiration. This was a parody of the ending to his chilling terror tale, "The Tell-Tale Heart". Google the story -- if you haven't read it already -- and read just the ending. You'll see what I mean.

    Thanks again.

Great one, Dean! Perfect balance 'tween humor and horror! I can see some Poe, here, and you've saluted him VERY well with this!

Cats always work so very well in horror, don't they?

Well, I didn't bleat, but this would've KO'd me before I became a hardcore horror fan, many moons ago.

Not to brag, Dean, but I wonder if I'd be scared if both Krueger and the demon-possessed young lady from The Exorcist smashed their way into my condo!

All that said, if I had a six...!

Peace,

Mike

I think I know what you mean. It can be tough to keep flowing with stories or poems or whatever. The ol' writer's block...
