Good chapter, I only spotted one thing to suggest:
It's barely 8:00."
(nobody speaks in numbers)
It's barely eight o'clock."
Narration of numbers is fine, but I do not know how to speak a number. We usually speak the word equivalent of them. I look forward to the next chapter.:)

[Maybe drop "my child." The phrase is a bit hackneyed.]
The accusation of using "peyote" at the celebration came out of left field. I know that peyote is some kind of drug, but actually don't know what it is.
I've lead a somewhat sheltered life where drugs are concerned. LOL
I'd guess that someone is trying to frame her, probably the guy she was with.

Peyote is a type of cactus and the Native Americans and the Mexicans have used it for a very powerful drug.

WHAT? Peyote present is prooved how? Not by a simple photo of Soni dancing, that's for sure! Who IS this Robert guy? What part of the government? Did I miss something about the ceramony? (I guess you can tell how much this chapter affected me! LOL I was just jubilant to know the dog was going to be okay and then another conflict! Great chapter, Barbara!)

Wow, that's a very disturbing end to this chapter, Barbara. Wonder who was taking those pictures? Makes me also suspect that Robert Hughes is involved in whatever illegal activities are going on. Loved the way Soni's grandfather knew to come and do the healing treatment. Another fine chapter!
