A poem about suffering

Whether there be a God or not, these crimes you refer to were invented by, and carried out, by Man - often in the false name of God.

On the other hand, a caring and all powerful God would not stand by and let this suffering continue. OK, we have to learn and suffer to a degree, to appreciate comfort and love, and to also widen our soul, but there should be a limit, IMO.

Enjoyed the read.

Best wishes, Ray.

Many crimes against humanity have been committed in the name of religion and continue to be so. There is much seemingly gratuitous violence in the pages of the Old Testament. They were savage times. The New Testament redresses the balance more than somewhat, with its emphasis on love, forgiveness and kindness to fellow human beings. Yet we still hear fearful stories of child abuse within the Church and people still go to war in the name of all that is holy. Man's interpretation of God is a paradox as, it seems, is man himself.

Thanks for the great review. Does it mean that the Old testament was untrue?

Like all history, it reflects the point of view of the writer - or in this case, multiple writers. That is my view at any rate. I cannot subscribe to a belief in the literal word-by-word truth of any document, however holy. With every translation the words take on a different shade of meaning. Even words in the same language shift their meaning over time.
