The same thoughts were running through my mind. We laugh at the ancient Greek gods with their human foibles. But what of the God of the Old Testament? Was he just a reflection of the people who worshiped him? Does Man create God in his own image?
Just a little critique: there are several typos in your author notes.

This meets the contest requirements beautifully. No matter what you do you will always offend somebody LOL it is human nature but I have found that often those who get offended are the ones guilty of some of the harms committed and you certainly point out all the world hurts well in this. I wish you all the best in the voting and thank you so much for sharing this with me.

I thought this was a story when I approached it. It's to prompt, with soft but valid rhymes. Excellent. The old Testament is terrifying in many places...

Yes that is what I was presented with and I was unable to get it into poem form. I will have to find out for the next time. Thanks for the great review.

Dear Writer,

For God gives us free will. I believe he does not intervene. For the Old Testament is God's word as interpreted by man. Slay my enemies, just obey, but it is us that wrote it that way. For God can not be the God of Justice and the God the Old Testament describes.

Warm regards,

Winslow

Very good, I don't think anything you wrote is offensive. The Bible does say all that stuff and has God doing it. But then the books were written by people. Who knows, perhaps there is no answer. Good work.

This poem asks the age old question: God, how can you allow all of the suffering to take place? Answer the question posed by the title, "Are you there God?" and you'll have your answer for the first line of the poem.

Excellent proximate rhymes.

Spooky picture.

Cheers,
DW

I can understand your thoughts, we tell our children, God is love and would never hurt you, or have you hurt. Suffer little children to come unto me. I often wondered what that meant, I still cannot understand it. Are children meant to suffer? This is a great entry to the contest. Good luck. xsx Sandra

wonderful use of proximate rhyming in many of your rhyming couplets
good use of opening question to draw the reader in - but don't you mean - how can God be FOR suffering?
good use of specific examples
good alliteration in phrases like barbaric bloodshed and in caring and compassionate
God, how could you - add comma for direct address
effective use of powerful illustrative examples
this will resonate with many readers who have wondered the same things
