Quality stuff.

Maybe these are the exact words, but more likely they are true to what was said.

The dialogue sounds spot on, genuine. You make it look as if is verbatim.

It's compelling reading.

Philosophically I am in agreement with you. But I know a lot of people who would not be.

I have a similar problem with the black-and-white opinions people.

Do you find any on FanStory?

Hello Lancellot

I see that you have just reviewed one of my pieces and so I thought I'd popover and return a review.

Bloody brilliant!

Funny isn't it that we expect politicians to be whiter than white, and yet we know they are far more crafty and devious than most. Of course, they lie, there are times when they have too for the sake of remaining in power. Nothing new there. But, to have a politician admit to being quite normal appears to irk us somehow.

Personally I would have had no problem voting in this honest man. I doubt though, that he would have remained as honest if he had been voted in.

Strange you know, here in the U.K if a politician came out and declared his strong religious beliefs, he would have practically no chance of getting voted into power, and yet it would seem that in the U.S, if the opposite were announced, he too would not stand a chance. LOL

Great writing Lancellot. Very engaging. Love the banter with the interviewer! :)

Kind regards

I wouldn't care what he did in his private life if it didn't hurt anyone such as a wife or young children that would be embarrassed by their father. What matters is what he would do on the job. One thing we could expect is honesty and that is rare as hell in politics. Great piece. mikey

Hi Lance. Loved this. That guy would have gotten my vote too and he did produce a credible argument. You have a wonderful knack at telling a story. Good for you! xoxo Kiwi

It's good that the interviewed turned interviewer. These gave readers a different perspective.

Mr. Wilkins did not win because he was honest in a blunt way. He gave people guilt feelings about who they are and did not want to have more of it.

Whether actions are illegal, immoral, right or wrong people tend to hide them because it spotlights them. By his straightforward admission, Wilkins was speaking for himself. On the other hand, the interviewer's hesitant replies pushed him into a tight corner. Many would choose not to be in his place.

If I don't forget Wilkins reply, I would add it to my favorite quotes: "I knew you understood, and so does everyone else, if they are brave enough to admit it."

Many of us, including me, I confess, can can only admit to this silently. We tend to hide behind our assumed morality.

I would have voted for this guy. His honesty is blunt and disarming.

There you have it, ladies - add comma for direct address
than they are voting for the wrong - then
times when ones needs - one needs
a thought-provoking essay
I don't really agree with the logic of the massage analogy, though
People really do study the techniques of massaging the kinks out of people's muscles if it is a straight, not sex massage
And most people are not married to a partner who has those skills. Lots of spouses can give a back rub that is just adequate for working out muscle problems, not one that really gets the job done.
I also find some logical flaw with the identify with the working man issue. Most people who complain a multi-millionaire is out of touch with the common man is not because they are accusing the millionaire of being lazy and working short hours. Most accusations of that type occur after a millionaire politician has made comments about things like the cost of things, comments that make it clear that particular rich guy doesn't have a clue what it's like to grocery shop for a family of four on a tight budget...

A very interesting interview presented nicely after long years, Politicians generally are hypocrites. They do not practice what they preach. Here is one interviewee who had the courage to admit what others may regard as illegal or immoral. Interestingly, everyone, as the interviewer also agreed finally, has double standards of illegality or immorality.

Would you really want a dude who has a yacht, and hires a
whole team of hookers to party then brags about it deciding how to spend your tax money? Fine write up.

Thank you very much. I don't think he ever bragged about it. It was found out and he asked about it.

Bravo! I agree with him totally. Can he DO the job he is running for? THAT is all that matters. His personal life should be personal. But voters are people, and people are usually judgmental about the habits and beliefs of others. No wonder we have such lousy congress members and presidents. People vote for all the wrong reasons (like skin color in obummer's case). Good interview! :)

I thought Mr Wilkins answered honestly and the interviewer should have been satisfied with that, not argued the point and pressed for finer detail. In any case the public made up its own mind, and that's what voting is for, so the system was working. Giddy
