That brought back a nasty memory for me. I was sure there was a monster in my cupboard above my wardrobe, he always hid when my Mum and Dad showed me it was an empty cupboard! LOL, aren't we funny! Loved this poem and I quite understand how you won the contest, sorry I missed it, but so pleased I have read it now. xsx sandra

Hi Neonewman,
Your poem is well written and interesting. I'm glad your co-worker took a copy of it to read to her son who feared a closet monster and that his fear was relieved. As a small child I was afraid to go to sleep as I always had terrible nightmares. Thanks to God, He rid me from them. Still, at my old age, I don't sleep more than 3-5 hours a night.

It's good that your poetry was able to help a child relieve his fears;
Many children experience fear of monsters, not only in the closet--but beneath the bed--I always had that fear;
Well-penned comments from child to monster.

I love this sweet poem, it reveals the innocence of a trusting child. He is definitely putting his faith in a higher power.
The rhythm of the poem was perfect, and I might add, so was the illustration.

A very intersing poem written for childen but readers of all ages would enjoy reading it. The background behind penning this poem and the wonderful effect it had on the child for whom it was written make the whole efforts rewarding. You have also been rewarded by FS. Congrats!

With respect, I think this structured/rhymed poem would benefit enormously from regular meter to smooth out the lines, making them less 'jumpy' to read.
However, it's an excellent story in a poem, where the monster is humanised to make it less scary and able to be fought off easily. Suits the theme of chilling out the child, very well.
Best wishes, Ray

Thank you Ray for this most inspiring review. I have been writing a novel and joined this site to help in honing my craft. Everyone who has read bits and pieces of my novel have simply wanted more, they say I have a way with telling a story.
Me being my own worst critique joined this site where no one knows me personally. I am not a poet, but have found this are to be stimulating and now have grown to love its relativity.
Reviewer like yourself aide most in my growth, I will have to learn about this meter thing LOL! I am not educated in these areas. Thank you again Ray for your support in my growth.
God bless!
