What a terrifying night that must have been. I would of course have been at home hiding beneath my bed on the night when the skeletons woke up from the dead. Great horror story.

An eerie poem of darkness and dread. I am wrapped warm in my blanket tonight. Let these skeletons wreak their terror elsewhere and if they visit my room I have a nice surprse for them in my closet, the acid monster that'll make their bones crumble to dust. Well done, Brooke.

Such good spooky fun. I can just imagine the skeletons marching down the street to some gruesome sounding music and the people who meet them fleeing in fear. You create such distinct imagery that I can imagine the sound of the bones clacking down the street. This is an excellent meter for story telling. You set the mood well. I love the line...

'Tis then when it did what all evil will do --
As the dark kept it covered, it flourished and grew.

Your Halloween poems are a lot of fun.

adewpearl: You make the rhythm seem so easy and amazing with your story. The skeleton had a little fun. I like the meeting of flesh with the bones of the ground. The screams, do they realize what they are doing? Great images. Lots of fun.

Great stuff! Very scary. Kind of sad too when they were rejected. It's understandable, of course, but also sad, imo.
Thanks for sharing this fine Halloween piece.

Mike, thanks so much - yeah, I don't think I would be going up to a bunch of skeletons and shaking their hands in welcome. LOL :-) Brooke

A fine parting shot for this Halloween season, Brooke. A fun, spooky poem and an enjoyable read, deftly constructed as always.

the people of flesh met the bones from the ground.

my favorite lines of the poem - very creepy and fun!

Hmmm...lots of clanking and bone-dancing. Gosh, you sure have put a lot of thought into this one - Zombies ain't even in the race! Best line - they wailed like the wind as it whips through the sea.' You really like Halloween, I can tell. I so enjoyed this tale of the dead rising. I will still watch Bones on TV! Well done Mrs Creepy. ****** six virtual because I ain't got any to give to you! Happy Halloween my friend.

America is a lot older than Aust. and we are like sheep - follow the leader. The kids have costumes and sort of celebrate what they don't understand. I guess it is fun for you and the children. LOL.

When you want to write a dark poem, you really right a dark poem. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words, making for a good read.
