Just gorgeous, both the words and the photo. I've been known to get up before sunrise and go to a certain place to capture the sunrise, too. There's just something about the experience that makes one feel part of a wondrous whole.

At first I did not quite get the first line but now see you are speaking of the presence behind the sun, the essence of life spreading its rays and warming us all. Excellent in that your personification is indirect and natural.

I like the description, "tranquility of a sunrise". Yes, there is a message of peace in the morning explosion of colors emanating from the sun's rays as it gently warms a human heart as your poem effectively explored. Thanks for sharing this one, God bless.

A lovely photo--a well-crafted poem to complement morning beauty;
"curtain of fire";
"gray wispy smoke signals";
Colorful skies ease us into a new day as we behold their brilliant, unique displays.

gray wispy smoke signals
of peace to the human heart
Terrific ending to this lovely sunrise tanka. I love the "Smoke signals" especially, and of course their message of PEACE. Each morning the sun rises on a new day. We can only hope that peace will come with it. Not so often lately though.

You say the picture doesn't do it justice. I feel the same way about my review. What words can adequately describe this magnificent photo and the words you have added to it.
It is Mother Nature at her incomparable best. All I can say is thank you for sharing it with us

Photos never can capture the beauty of sunrise or sunset.
Brilliant metaphor of fire and smoke signals. Alliteration of sun, send, and signals adds smoothness to the message.
Good luck in the contest. This stands a good chance.

Thanks, Shari. It was really a fun outing with friends. One gal brought coffee and powered donuts for us as we watched the sunrise! 8-)

How beautiful. Sunrises are so special that it's a shame I can't get out of bed in time to see more of them! I love the last line because how could you feel anything BUT peace when you gaze upon a sky like that???

Thanks so much for your review and comments. I'm sorry to hear that you are confined to bed and hope that you are finding other ways to find peace and joy in your life. Hugs! 8-)

Ha! I didn't mean I'm confined to my bed - only that I'm too tired to get up that early!

Ha! Good to know!! 8-)
